Ukraine v Russia War Thread
It's hilarious how much people are shilling for Putin and Russia. I didn't realize we had so many Russia bots on this site. Let's just ignore Russia regaining resources and land, and rebuilding their power status in the world. I'm sure them growing in power, and being buddy buddy with China is going to go well long term. It's just Ukraine, after all. It's just Georgia, after all. It's just Moldova, after all. It's just Kyrgystan, after all...

Just throwing this in here. How the nation of Ukraine ranks:

1st in Europe in proven recoverable reserves of uranium ores;
2nd place in Europe and 10th place in the world in terms of titanium ore reserves;

2nd place in the world in terms of explored reserves of manganese ores (2.3 billion tons, or 12% of the world's reserves);

2nd largest iron ore reserves in the world (30 billion tons);

2nd place in Europe in terms of mercury ore reserves;

3rd place in Europe (13th place in the world) in shale gas reserves (22 trillion cubic meters)

4th in the world by the total value of natural resources;
7th place in the world in coal reserves (33.9 billion tons)

Ukraine is an agricultural country:

1st in Europe in terms of arable land area;
3rd place in the world by the area of black soil (25% of world's volume);
1st place in the world in exports of sunflower and sunflower oil;
2nd place in the world in barley production and 4th place in barley exports;
3rd largest producer and 4th largest exporter of corn in the world;
4th largest producer of potatoes in the world;
5th largest rye producer in the world;
5th place in the world in bee production (75,000 tons);
8th place in the world in wheat exports;
9th place in the world in the production of chicken eggs;
16th place in the world in cheese exports.

Ukraine can meet the food needs of 600 million people.

Ukraine is an industrialized country:

1st in Europe in ammonia production;
2nd in Europe and 4th largest natural gas pipeline system in the world (142.5 bln cubic meters of gas throughput capacity in the EU);
3rd largest in Europe and 8th largest in the world in terms of installed capacity of nuclear power plants;
3rd place in Europe and 11th in the world in terms of rail network length (21,700 km);
3rd place in the world (after the U.S. and France) in production of locators and locating equipment;
3rd largest iron exporter in the world
4th largest exporter of turbines for nuclear power plants in the world;
4th world's largest manufacturer of rocket launchers;
4th place in the world in clay exports
4th place in the world in titanium exports
8th place in the world in exports of ores and concentrates;
9th place in the world in exports of defense industry products;
10th largest steel producer in the world (32.4 million tons).

Don't worry, the Russian and US MSM will cover it all up. It will all be sanitized. They will show Russians as saviors. Because if they show the horrors of war, then it is evidence of Biden's failures. Can't have that. Babies be damned.
Many people are just going to disappear. The only ones that will know are any remaining family.

Who's doing that?  Serious question as I've been away from this thread.

What do you propose we do about a full-on invasion of Ukraine?  Should we move a couple hundred thousand troops to Europe and prepare to go into Ukraine to confront the Russians?  If we go, will the Germans also go?  How about the French, British, Norwegians, Poles, Italians, etc.?

I'm not in favor of sending U.S. forces.  If the Russians take the whole enchilada, they will expend massive amounts of blood and treasure in trying to keep it.  Remember Afghanistan?  If they take Ukraine, they will eventually regret it and leave.

Two different dynamics. Ukraine has some level of cultural and ethnic identity with Russia. One of the Soviet leaders was from Ukraine….kruschev?. As Wylie said Ukraine has tremendous potential for agriculture and raw materials.

It looks like he's just trying to lop off the best parts that are heavily Russian. Then he can bully a weakened remaining Ukraine more easily and just hold onto the parts he wants. Basically just expanding on what he did with Crimea. He doesn't have to take over the whole thing.
I see why he's doing it but I think he miscalculates the cost. I don't think he'll gain enough to offset the cost. But we'll see. US leadership is weak and western Europe outside of the UK is pretty much entirely feckless.

Yep. Feckless western leadership.

Biden is like the parent weâ€ve all encountered in the store “Johnny donâ€t run in the store” “Johnny donâ€t touch that” “Johnny you do that again and you arenâ€t getting a toy”. Each time increasing in volume.
Johnny keeps doing it and later you see Johnny with the toy.

He probably wants just enough control to get a puppet “elected”

Check the page before where lrrps said Putin is just taking back what is Russiaâ€s.

I donâ€t think we should put boots on the ground. However, I would supply the crap out of them, perhaps send in a few commanders to help with logistics and strategy. Ukraine has a pretty substantial military. They could definitely make it extremely costly for Russia to advance. We should try to push them to hold their ground and not cede anything to Russia, not just for their sake, but for all the countries around them that donâ€t have the resources Ukraine does, and would just get rolled by Russia.

Agree with that. Support the hell out of anyone fighting the Russians and do as much as you can to their economy. Just the stinger missiles in Afghanistan cost them dearly. They don't really have the economy to support the military they have. Give the Ukrainians equipment that destroys expensive Russian equipment. The Russians will expend troops but they can't afford heavy equipment losses. Somehow we have to get Europe off their oil and gas and get the US back to exporting the same to drive down prices. Get them coming and going. But no American personnel.

I suspect our real involvement, other than support, will be cyber. Highly doubt we ever see “boots on the ground” in Ukraine

But giving a tip of the cap to an illegal invasion of another country and saying we should do the same thing on our border is not a good thing IMO.

That isn't what he did. That is just how Trump talks and describes things.  And yes, he was once again mocking our border fiasco created by Biden.  You are falling for spin.

Spin?  I listed a direct quote from a conversation he had with a conservative talk guy.

How did you take his quote?  What do you think he meant by it?
I listened to it also.  It is no different than when Trump would always say we gave China a sweetheart deal with trade.  He said I did not blame (China's leader) he was making deals for his country and he blamed how we gave the sweetheart deals and why China loved that deal.  These were the deal from Clinton and Bush he referred to.

He did the same thing with Putin said from the Russian standpoint (not ours) it was genius.  Putin put together a plan and will execute it to get their needs.  Trump made it clear that would have never happened under his watch.  He also added Putin talked about this when Trump was potus and Trump told him you don't want to make the move while I am potus I can't let you do that.  That is the full story and the same interview.

Everyone needs to pray for the people of Ukraine. They did nothing wrong. It is not like Palestinians shooting missiles at Israel. Many prayers for the people of Ukraine. They are going to stand and fight.

I pray the Lord gives them strength and with standing up that Putin realizes he is wrong because he will lose many troops himself.

Oh we've got much better capabilities these days than stinger missiles.  We have a unit specially trained in diversity and inclusion that we can send into the fight!
