Except for the last 3 winters. Gee, I wonder why???

Actually, this last Winter Flu season/RSV was early and bad, at least in Ohio. The one thing that can't be argued is that masking/social distancing/etc. prevented Flu/RSV and other disease transmission. Not that I'm in favor of those restrictions but they did certainly have an impact.

I had Influenza A last season.  Worst cold/flu experience of my life.  Much worse than COVID.  So bad that I'm considering getting a flu vaccine this season, which I haven't done since my work gave out free shots about 25 years ago.

I honestly can't recall ever having the flu my entire life. I'm sure I've had it, but it may just have been when i was a kid. Step throat has gotten me though, a good half dozen times.

So masks did nearly nothing to stop the transmission of Covid, but they magically "prevented" Flu/RSV?

Please forgive the sane among us who have a very hard time believing much of this at this point.

One of the most naked cases of "follow the money" that has ever existed.

When you get to the point in a country where the govt funds people and entities to lie to them (the govt), that's when you know it's essentially over.  Just a matter of time now.

Good thing that vaccine came along to save the world from the flu...  errr Covid!  Did I say that out loud?   Big Grin

Just a comedian who doesn't deserve a platform discussing things that we've been told by the big brains in this room is nearly unpossible.

Nothing to see here folks.

The only news is now maybe they have released names(which they've always had) of 3 workers who got sick who we already knew about over 2 years ago. IOW nothing really new. The data and the virus itself still points heavily, almost conclusively, to animal transmission at the market.
Yes I get my scientific information from scientific publications and scientists and not comedians. If that confuses some people that isn't my problem.

Now obviously if you're in a category of people---like if you're 80---that can be greatly harmed due to other conditions, of course you get the shots. Thankfully I'm fortunate enough not to need 'em.  Which I would bet is roughly 80--90% of the population under 65.  Ya turn on your local TV news every winter and it's, oh my gosh it's the FLUUUUUUUU!!!!!!

I guess I don't really understand this sentiment. Sure, you likely won't die from the flu if you are under 70 (same with Covid), but it still sucks. I'd rather not get sick at all, or have a very minor reaction than the full on flu. Taking a half hour out of my day once a year to get a flu shot seems worth it to possibly avoid multiple days to a week of being miserable. 50 years of getting flu shots takes up about a day of my life, while one flu will floor me for a few days, minimum.

It's a cost/benefit analysis for me. Early on, Covid sucked. I knew many people that got it and were wiped out, my mom lost her smell and taste for over a year. Hence, I decided to get the shot. It wasn't because I was afraid of dying, it was because I'd rather not be sick if I don't have to be. Now that Covid is more of a minor annoyance to most people my age than a flu-like experience, then that scale starts to tip back towards the "not going to bother" side.

I take vaccines like flu, all the covid, etc.  if a person doesn’t want those that is their business.  I also took shingles vaccine.   I’d highly recommend this once you get 50s.  It is nasty.   I also took latest pneumococcal as well.  I have friend almost die from the pneumonia few months ago.  He is in 70s and got this in gym.   I highly recommend this shot.

Not sure if you are talking to me, or not, but I didn't get the bivalent booster. The last booster I got was the monovalent Moderna booster, then I got Covid and figured I was good for a while longer without any booster because of that.

First off, masking did provide marginal protection from direct contact with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and prevent some transmission. However, social distancing was MUCH more effective, but since it was a novel virus that was magnitudes more infectious than the common flu virus, all the protection in the world was NEVER going to prevent eventual infection of the populace.

Masking has been effectively used in Nursing Home for seasonal flu for forty years +, nothing new or special about it. You can simply look at RSV/Flu numbers and understand how keeping kids out of school(Do not support), and Covid restrictions prevented much transmission of other childhood diseases. All it really did was DELAY those infections and pile them into a single season, last Fall/Winter was a real scary time. My own Grandson was not hospitalized with RSV ONLY Because no beds were available at that time. A nephew was not given breathing treatments because they had to save the medicine for children that were younger and sicker. IT WAS REAL.

Me too, I have had three but looked at the numbers and decided not to get the bivalent booster. I've gotten vaccinated for the flu/covid and the "Grandparents" vaccine because I love my grandchildren and if I infected them because I was too selfish to get a vaccination, I'd hate myself for the rest of my life. (Both kids have had covid at least once now)

Do Covid tests go bad? I got vaxxed in Feb-March of 21’, then got Covid in Jan 22’-right after attending the Bengals-Raiders playoff game-I said I’m totally catching Omnicron and it’s gonna be totally worth—and sure enough, caught it the very next week. Anyway, I tested positive with the test I got the following week-I was feeling the symptoms, no big deal. Then, in September of last year I feel the exact same symptoms-and tested with the leftover test from January-two in a box. I felt the exact same symptoms, but tested negative in September. Do the tests age out, effectiveness wise?

Yes, though the original expiration dates have been extended several times, not sure if it's because they found that they continue to work or simply didn't want to spend more cash on new ones. There are also false negatives and of course other ailments that mimic the symptoms of SARS-CoV-2. I've never tested positive and like you, had a perfect match for Omicron last fall and tested negative early on, never tested again later.
