"That's Racist!" Thread
The last sentence leaves me scratching my head.  On the one hand you rescinded the invitations to the white members, but then you say it was characterized as an honest mistake.  You also say separating people by race isn't divisive.  Are you saying it was an honest mistake or not?   Confused

I remember being told that segregation was a bad thing.  Especially if forced.

They were lying.

It certainly appears that way.

Black man who spent 44 years in prison before he was exonerated gets record $25M settlement

Ronnie Long was convicted by an all-white jury in North Carolina on Oct. 1, 1976, after he was accused of raping a white woman in Concord.

.......................

Long was convicted by an all-white jury on Oct. 1, 1976, after he was accused of raping a white woman. He was 21 when he was sentenced to life in prison, NBC affiliate WCNC of Charlotte reported.

His attorneys detailed numerous issues with his trial, beginning with jury selection. They said that before jury summonses were issued, the chief of police and the sheriff had removed nearly all of the Black potential jurors, his attorneys said.

They said there was no physical evidence tying Long to the rape and burglary and he did not match the original description of the suspect — a "yellow or really light-skinned Black male." A rape kit collected at the hospital and provided to Concord police went missing and has never been found, Long's attorneys said.

They said the prosecution’s main piece of evidence was the victim identifying Long weeks after the attack and it was "the product of a suggestive identification procedure arranged by the police to target Long."

There were also numerous pieces of evidence from the scene, including suspect hair and 43 fingerprints, that could have helped exonerate him, according to his attorneys. The evidence, which they said did not belong to Long, was tested by investigators but not disclosed. The attorneys also accused Concord police officers of giving false testimony about the evidence at Long's trial.

The Concord Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

Itâ€s like something out of a horror movie. In broad daylight, being attacked by four people as you try and enter your car, your arm and clothes ripped off as your assailants try and speed off in your car. Her last moments on earth were being dragged down the street by four carjackers on the side of her.

One of those four arrested for the barbaric assault had a 2020 burglary assault charge dropped at the behest of the victim.
All four of the attackers were black. Africans in America teens. Two 15-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 17-year old.
The individual they targeted for carjacking was a 73-year-old white grandmother.

Her name is Linda Frickey. She leaves behind a husband, two children, and three grandchildren. [Grandmother, 73, killed after losing arm during horrific carjacking, New York Post, March 23, 2022]:

Quote:A 73-year-old grandmother was killed during a horrific carjacking in New Orleans when her arm and clothes were ripped off after she got stuck by the seatbelt as the attackers drove off, authorities said.
Linda Frickey was carjacked by four teens about 1:30 p.m. Monday as she was leaving a business in New Orleans†Mid-City neighborhood, WWL-TV reported.

She was dragged for almost an entire block on North Scott Street, according to the outlet.
“Her arm was severed from her body,” police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said.
An eyewitness told WWL-TV that the victim was trying to put something in her car when a person “jumped in and kicked her out and she got caught in the wheel well.

“I heard screaming, like, ‘Youâ€re about to die†screaming!” the witness said.
Nearby resident Todd Eckernc said he saw the speeding car dragging the woman by the seatbelt.
“The door had closed on the seatbelt, and she was stuck in it … I got out of my vehicle screaming, ‘Please stop!†Other neighbors were also screaming,” he told Fox 8.

Another neighbor who had been walking in the area described the gruesome scene.
“She was screaming, and she was screaming to please let her go and then they slowed down and opened the door to kick her out,” Leanne Mascar told Fox 8.

“As soon as I saw her, I screamed. I just started running for her — I thought if I could somehow, I donâ€t know what I could do, but I thought if I could dislodge her from this car … when I looked down her body was already there, and her arm was … Itâ€s just not something you expect to see,” she said.
“She was laying there naked, and I thought the indignity she just suffered, it was already too much,” Mascar added.
Her husband, Mark Mascar, told the outlet: “Just to sit beside a woman whoâ€s a mother or grandmother and watch her fade away, as my wife said, we were praying.

“I was telling her to hang in there because every time I heard a siren, I was hoping and praying it was the ambulance. I kept telling her to hang in there, breathing, her eyes were moving. Iâ€ve never seen something so horrific,” Mark added.
Police recovered the stolen vehicle about 13 blocks away, but the four carjackers escaped and are still being sought.
Feguson asked for help from the public.
“Someone knew something before it was going to occur and now that it has occurred, you know that someone knows that information as well,” the police superintendent said.
Tim Levy of the Greater Mid-City Business Association told WWL-TV that “in six months, weâ€ve gone from some very positive things in Mid-City to … fear. Citizens I talk to, theyâ€re all buying guns.”

Forth is going to trial.

3 teens plead guilty in brutal carjacking that severed woman’s arm, killed her

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) - Three of the four people accused in the death and carjacking of a 73-year-old New Orleans woman have pleaded guilty.

Linda Frickey, 73, was killed in March 2022 when police say four teenagers carjacked her and dragged her more than a block until her arm was severed. She died from blunt force injuries.

The accused were identified as John Honore, Briniyah Baker, Mar’Qel Curtis and Lenyra Theophile. At the time of the crime, they ranged in age from 15 to 17, but Honore has since turned 18. The four were charged as adults with second-degree murder.

“Linda would have forgave them if they would have just walked away, and they know that. They know that Linda would have been a good person,” said Jinny Frickey, the victim’s sister, outside the courthouse Monday.

Baker, Curtis and Theophile pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of attempted manslaughter and will be sentenced to 20 years in prison as part of the plea deal. The three girls will serve a minimum of 15 years each, WVUE reports.

“I felt relief because that’s what we’ve been after this whole time: justice,” Jinny Frickey said.

In court, two of the teens expressed remorse, and one teen’s attorney offered prayers.

“They were saying they were sorry. I’m sure they were because you go back, hindsight, a lot of times, you are sorry for the actions you’ve completed,” Jinny Frickey said. “But you did it, and unfortunately, they did it, and they have to serve the time.”
