Urb was a hell of a coach in college, but it's a different game he's playing now.  No different than Chip Kelly a few years ago.

I like Chip.  I know Chip.  I speak to him often.  But he was never gonna be an NFL coach long term.

It's not often a successful transition.  There were not many college coaches better than Steve Spurrier or Nick Saban but it just wasn't gonna work in the NFL.
Love the ole ball coach at Florida. Best quote was you canâ€t spell Citrus Bowl without UT pissed off those Vols fans every time

His post game shows were as hilarious as Adolph Rupp's.  I remember South Carolina had just put a 60 point beat down on Kentucky and the announcer was congratulating Spurrier on how sharp his offense looked.  The Coach said, naw we had some let downs and probably left 20 or 30 points on the field.   Big Grin
yes!  His post game pressers were solid gold, especially at USC......I couldn't stand him, but I really liked him.  Odd dynamic, but he's probably one of my favorite coaches....

No longer GroupThink 'woke'.  but it was fun while it lasted.

Browns LB Jacob Phillips will undergo surgery on a torn biceps, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said after Friday's practice.

Phillips, a second-year linebacker out of LSU, suffered the injury early in Thursday's joint practice with the Giants. He'd been serving as the MIKE linebacker with the Browns' second defense and entered the season with high expectations after finishing his rookie year with a flourish

There's no timetable for Phillips' return.

"I saw it happen on the tape," Stefanski said. "He just reached out and was trying to defend a guy running a route. Very unfortunate. I feel for Jacob, but he will bounce back. He will attack that rehab."

Phillips' injury is the latest in a Browns linebacker room that has been hit hard over the past week.

Mack Wilson suffered a shoulder injury in last week's preseason game against the Jaguars and was a limited participant in practice for most of the week. Sione Takitaki suffered a hamstring injury Thursday and did not practice Friday. Fifth-round rookie Tony Fields II has yet to practice because of a foot injury he suffered in the days before the full team reported for camp. The Browns added two players to the group Friday, signing Montrel Meander and Willie Harvey Jr., to add some much-needed depth heading into Sunday's game against the Giants at FirstEnergy Stadium.

With most of their starters on the sidelines for the second consecutive preseason game, the Browns used some timely second-half points and several key defensive stops to defeat the New York Giants, who completed two joint practices with the Browns before Sunday's final meeting at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Myles Garrett and others wore pads, but stayed on the sideline and watched as the Browns paced themselves to a 17-13 win behind strong performances from a handful of players fighting for depth roles on the regular season roster. Case Keenum started at quarterback and led the offense in the first half while rookies CB Greg Newsome II and LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah highlighted top players to start on defense.

"I thought it was some good work for the guys out there," head coach Kevin Stefansi said. "It was hot. They were battling. It took 60 minutes. Got some good situational football work – a two-minute at the end of the first half, a two-minute drive there on defense at the end of the second half and a two-point play – so I think there are a lot of things going on that the guys did a nice job communicating and ultimately battling throughout. Good win."

The Browns opened the game with a 10-play, 81-yard drive that ended with Keenum, who started the game, hitting receiver KhaDarel Hodge on fourth-and-goal for a 7-yard touchdown. Keenum fit the pass through a tight window into the left corner of the end zone, and Hodge jumped to make the athletic snag. RB D'Ernest Johnson was the primary catalyst of the drive, however, and rushed three times for 34 yards.

The Giants — who also held out several of their starters, including quarterback Daniel Jones, and their top receivers — responded on the next drive with an 11-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Devontae Booker leaping over the line of scrimmage for a goal-line touchdown to even the score at 7-7.

All scoring was halted for the rest of the first half, though. Kyle Lauletta replaced Keenum at quarterback on the final drive of the second quarter. Keenum finished 9-of-12 for 74 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

The clunky offensive performances continued until the Browns' second drive of the second half when Lauletta and fullback Johnny Stanton IV connected on two first-down passes that moved the Browns 33 yards downfield. Running back John Kelly closed the drive with two runs — one for 18 yards and the other for 5 yards that ended with a dive inside the pylon for the score and 14-7 lead.

Following the Giants' first quarter touchdown, the Browns forced New York into five consecutive punts until they found the end zone for a second time with 7 minutes left. Brian Lewerke hit David Sills V for an 8-yard score and attempted to take the lead with a two-point conversion, but a Browns penalty negated the first attempt, which fell incomplete. Giants RB Gary Brightwell took a handoff on the second attempt but was stuffed by Elijah Lee.

The stop was Lee's biggest play of the game, one in which he finished as one of the top defensive standouts and led the Browns with nine tackles. Other standouts included LB Malcolm Smith, who recorded six tackles in the first half, and DT Malik McDowell, who recorded five tackles, one sack and two quarterback hits.

Offensive standouts included Kelly, who took over at running back in the second half and registered nine carries for 58 yards and one touchdown. WR Davion Davis recorded three receptions for 45 yards, leading the Browns' receivers in that category for the second consecutive week. Rookie Demetric Felton was used as a receiver in the first preseason game but moved to running back Sunday and finished with eight carries for 25 yards. He was also used as a punt returner and totaled with three returns for 21 yards.

Kicker Chase McLaughlin sealed the final Browns points when he nailed a 49-yard field goal to extend Cleveland's lead to four points with 2:29 left, while safety Richard LeCounte III recorded his second interception of the preseason on the final Hail Mary play from the Giants.

CB Greedy Williams (groin), LB Montrel Meander (ankle) and OT Alex Taylor (ankle) exited the game early with injuries.

Cleveland heads to Atlanta next Sunday for its third and final preseason game.

Browns were leading at half.   Mayfield with a TD pass iirc to Hodge.   The kid from UCLA, Felton, looks very good.

Browns at Full Strength going into KC Sunday .

The Cleveland Browns haven't Won a Season opening game since September 12th 2004 When they opened up beating the Baltimore Ravens 20-3 that win spring boarded them to a 4-12 Season under Butch Davis.

Ironically this Season also Opens up on September 12th 2021

My pick is 31-34 Chiefs at home , but Browns come closer to Winning 12 games this year than losing 12 games.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens reached a one-year agreement with running back Latavius Murray as they quickly scramble to patch up an injury-ravaged backfield before the regular season begins, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday.

The deal is worth up to $2 million, the source told Schefter.

Murray, 31, becomes the fourth running back signed by the Ravens this week, joining Trenton Cannon, Le'Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman. Bell and Freeman are on the practice squad.

Murray, who was scheduled to make $3.15 million in salary and bonuses this season, was abruptly cut by the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday after refusing to take a pay cut.

The addition of Murray comes one day after Baltimore lost Gus Edwards, who tore his ACL on Thursday. Edwards is the third Ravens running back to suffer a season-ending injury in a 12-day span.

Murray is the most accomplished running back on the Ravens' active roster and could become the featured back once he gets comfortable with the system.

For now, Ty'Son Williams, the only healthy running back who was on Baltimore's roster before Wednesday, is expected to make his first career start in the opener at the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football. Williams, who went undrafted out of BYU last year, spent last season on the Ravens' practice squad and doesn't have an NFL carry.

The Ravens have led the NFL in rushing the past two seasons and are confident in their scheme, especially with dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson drawing so much attention. Over the past two years, every Ravens running back with at least 100 carries has averaged over 5 yards per carry: Edwards, J.K. Dobbins and Mark Ingram.

Ravens' Rushing Options

After injuries to J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill, the Ravens added Latavius Murray to the backfield mix on the 53-man roster, with two veteran options on the practice squad.

CAREER YDS
Ty'Son Williams 0

Latavius Murray 4,991

Trenton Cannon 146

Le'Veon Bell* 6,453

Devonta Freeman** 4,144

Patrick Ricard -1
* On practice squad

Murray's physical running style between the tackles mirrors Edwards' and is considered an ideal fit in the Ravens' smashmouth system. A valuable backup to Alvin Kamara in New Orleans, Murray ran for 656 yards and averaged 4.5 yards per carry in 2020. He has recorded 4,991 rushing yards, 1,294 receiving yards and 45 touchdowns in his seven-year career.

Injuries have devastated the Baltimore backfield over the past two weeks. Starting running back J.K. Dobbins tore the ACL in his left knee in the preseason finale at Washington on Aug. 28. Justice Hill, the projected No. 3 back, tore his Achilles during practice on Sept. 2. Edwards then tore his ACL on Thursday, just after cornerback Marcus Peters suffered a season-ending knee injury during practice.

Cannon, who was signed to the 53-man roster on Wednesday, is expected to provide depth at running back and make an immediate impact on special teams. The Ravens are expected to promote Freeman or Bell from the practice squad just before Monday's game.

With Jackson, Baltimore has averaged an NFL-best 198.9 yards rushing per game in the previous two seasons. But the only current Ravens running back who had a carry for them last season was fullback Patrick Ricard, who had minus-1 yards rushing.

The Ravens adapted in the ground game in each of the past three seasons, with a different lead rusher at running back: Edwards (718 yards in 2018), Ingram (1,018 in '19) and Dobbins (805 in '20).

The loss of Peters, a Pro Bowl cornerback, is the most significant injury to Baltimore's defense this year. In total, the Ravens have had five players suffer season-ending injuries in a rough 19-day stretch.

Ravens lost Marcus Peters DB and Gus Edwards RB to Season ending injuries yesterday as a Major Injury Bug continues to plaque them before the Season has even started.

Peters is a big loss for them.
