I do recall a South African golfer, Ernie Els, being very similar to Tiger in body type.  Not as ripped, but definitely athletic looking.

I just can't roll with the idea that the competition is so much better now.  Yeah training etc...  has advanced, but that's true of all major sports.  Heck if anything, Nicholas had to play against some other greats (Palmer, Player, Watson, etc...) that didn't shrink at the sight of his shadow like the supposedly better competition that Tiger allegedly faced.  Tiger had those guys squirting themselves at the sight of his red shirt and black cap.  Better competition?  Really?   Not sure I can roll with that one.  Maybe better skilled by a straight up comparison, but for his era I think Nicholas had it at least just as hard if not harder.
nobody will touch Jack's second place finishes in majors either. Also add Trevino and Floyd to that competition list. They didn't pee themselves at the sight of Nicklaus, rather they upped their game.

Yup.  Relative to the era in which they played, one could easily say that Jack had better competition than Tiger.

Hey, where you been lately?  Haven't seen you in a while.

Well if we are doing "second place" finishes, ain't nobody gonna touch TTUNs incredible run of third place finishes in the B1G-East.

Tiger's biggest problem was his knee. My Dad told me (correctly) he was going to destroy his right knee because of the violent hinging (whatever word you want to use) years ago. That's exactly why he has had attempted to change his swing many times.

Tiger also created the competition that is out there today. The younger dudes on tour all grew up watching and rooting for Tiger. Some of those guys would have never played golf if not for Tiger.

Jack never dealt with near the same competition as today.

Tiger brought physical fitness/weight training into a sport that never really had it.

Not really. The PGA "traveling gym" for players to exercise and lift while on tour started in the 1980's.

What was available and what was utilized clearly aren't the same. Golf was not a sport of the physically fit and muscular.

I say this knowing full well that ticks you off that a black golfer dominated the way woods did.
Tiger was roided up.

Montreal Canadians Stanley Cups 24

Are the Canadians due to fold? If not, then they could easily break their own record of 24 by simply adding to it.

It's technically the Canadiens (or Habs) with regards to Montreal. No team from Canada has won the cup since 1993, which I find hilarious. I hope that streak goes on as long as possible.

You have to remember a lot of those cups were in the original six era and then the non salary cap years. Now there is a salary cap and 31 teams. Next year there will be 32 teams with Seattle adding a team.

It's just not true. Golf didn't pay that well back then even for the top guys. Many of the other guys were working normal jobs and then paying golf on the side. A lot wouldn't even travel to play in the British Open for numerous reasons. You could argue it was more top-heavy back then and I would agree with you. You could pick 5 players out of a 140 player Major tourney and win most of the time. Now it's not that easy.

I should have specified it to when Tiger was healthy and playing in his heyday.  He psychologically owned the field before the first tee shot.

I probably should dune. I like both Tiger and Jack. They like each other too. I was a little fired up. We can appreciate both and other golf legends at the same time.

You were wrong.  Tiger Woods did not bring weight training and fitness to golf.  It was already there.

Great. I'm sure you can find other golfers with a similar physique to Woods.

And that is probably a 1970 photo.

Those pics aren't really helping your cause. Not being overweight isn't the same as being in shape and muscular.

Tiger's workout routine is acknowledged as being one of a kind in golf.

Baloney.  You said Woods introduced weight training to golf.  Already told you the PGA had a traveling workout room for the players in 1985.  Obviously Gary Player above was doing more than just playing golf 30 years before anyone heard of Tiger Woods.  Just admit you are wrong and move on.

Fair enough... Woods made weight/resistance training much more of a norm than it previously was. The two golfers above, I would bet largely, never took weight training seriously like Woods.  Not being Lefty fat isn't the same as in shape.

However, we all like to believe that athletes in our generation are better than those before/after, so your reaction is expected.

Two golfers above?  It's the same Gary Player on the right just probably 40 year older.  He was obviously fitness oriented way before Tiger Woods.  I have not commented at all about any generational differences in this thread.  I have nothing against Tiger Woods but obviously he has benefited from a lot of hype.  He did not invent the game of golf.
