States rights as long as you do exactly what all of our members are required to do/support. Come on. Â
I'll listen to an argument that says it wasn't mostly about slavery. I'll at least consider it, but don't give me the states rights song and dance. That's a joke.

The slavery issue exposed that is wasn't about slavery. The North was determined to ignore both the law and the agreement that the states entered into when the country was founded. Before the war, they even refused to enforce the fugitive slave law they agreed to. They aren't much different than the Yankees of today who ignore the laws and do as they please.

That's not necessarily accurate. States were responsible for collecting fugitive slaves. In fact, Ohio had one of the most strict enforcement protocols in the nation. But it also had some of the strongest proponents of abolition.

war and peace is a great book, but has a ton, 500+,characters and doesn†t have as tight of a story. But the explanation of Napoleon taking Moscow is worth the read.

These days the only thing I read about military history are AARs.
The America, and the American Military, that you once knew is gone.

If you like WW2, anything by Antony Beevor I highly recommend. Some of the best WW2 books Ive ever read. They are captivating.
THe Warrior Generals by Thomas Buell is also a great read on Civil War generals. HE really eschews conventional thinking and ideas and makes a convincing case for his thesis.

I†d start with Siege of Stalingrad by him.  Also, Fall of Berlin 1945 was fascinating to see the City and nazi regime collapse.
