In a time when the baseball season lasted 154 games, the 1927 Yankees went 110-44. Babe Ruth mashed a record 60 home runs (more than 12 whole teams hit that year) and Lou Gehrig hit .373 with 47 home runs and 52 doubles. Outfielders Earl Combes (.356 BA) and Bob Meusel (.337 BA) combined for 83 doubles. They were called “Murderers†Row†for a reason.
The 1927 Yankees could also pitch with the best of them. Ace Waite Hoyt went 22-7 with a 2.63 ERA while closer Wilcy Moore chalked up 19 wins out of the bullpen with an ERA of 2.28. Their run differential (number of runs they outscored opponents) was a staggering 376. In the World Series, the Babe hit .400 with seven RBI as the Yankees swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in four games. Itâ€s what happens when the best player ever leads the best squad ever against any opponent.

Using that reasoning the 2020 Dodgers are way better than the 1976 Reds because they have better athletes and better training and development methods than teams 4 or 5 decades before them. I will go with that.

So the difference between 1976 and 1927 is of great relevance but the difference between 2020 and 1976 is not? Talk about inconsistent reasoning. Nice Pitchblack gif there. LOL

Talking to uninformed guys like you who look for things to argue is really boring. I guess you haven't heard of the MODERN ERA PITCH? It started in 1950s and continues today. There is a huge difference. I followed your lead on the GIFS since you liked them.
ok, BACK to the game and away from the p1tch arguing.....Reds CONTINUE to lead 2-0 over Dbacks as Hoffman throwing ANOTHER solid game. I can see Reds putting him and Deleon in the pen for long relief when Lorenzen comes back. Gray slated to pitch this week and I think Hoffman is designated to the pen at this point. Like to see them release Bedrosian in process. He's terrible.
UPDATE: Asdrubal Cabrera with HR to make it 2-1 now in 4th.

I believe we've had this discussion before. I cited a GOAT list and it was either the 75 or 76 Reds that they had ranked 3rd all time. I think the '98 Yankees were number one and the '39 Yankees were 2. The '27 Yankeees, strangely enough, were much farther down the list.

No offense Zig but you have already lost this argument using your own reasoning. Actually in the era of the 1976 Reds, I'd put the 1970 Orioles ahead of them based on pitching alone.

You can cite just about any list and the 75/76 Reds will be in the top 5 at worst. That line up was ridiculous. Bench, Rose, Perez, Morgan, Foster, Griffey, Concepcion, Geronimo.
