Georgia moving ahead now with legislative law to make presidential elections fair

Well, look at the NPR story, and the outline of what the DoJ finds objectionable. A lot of folks will read that, and wonder if it's really a big deal.

Had they not filed, folks could be swayed by more general media accounts that are vague but claim it's bad.

When you list specifics, folks learn about the specifics.
I'm against all over generalizations.

I've been voting over 40 years and not once did I need anyone to bring me food or water while I was waiting to vote.  For the DOJ to claim provisions banning that disproportionately prevent black people from voting is pure garbage.  Garland is nothing but a hack and a Soviet style activist.  This is all political theater designed to get propagandized woke white females and low IQ low information blacks enraged.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the Department of Justice is suing the state of Georgia Friday over their passing of a law to ensure election integrity and security. President Biden has been highly critical of the new law comparing it to Jim Crow. George Washington University Law Professor and Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley sat down with "Fox & Friends" Saturday to analyze the DOJ lawsuit.

"I'm highly skeptical and I think they may ultimately regret this move. It could indeed clarify this issue in a way the Biden administration does not want," Turley said.

Turley raised questions over the merit of the lawsuit citing similarities between Georgia and other states such as Delaware. "But, this is a very dubious case in my view. Because the Georgia law has great overlap with other states like Delaware" he said.

Turley also mentioned the popularity of requiring identification when going to the polls to vote, a key component of the Georgia voting law. "Voter identification as an example is extremely popular with voters And you now see a lot of democratic members beginning to say really, ‘we are not questioning that anymore.â€" he added.

The George Washington law professor discussed the political ramifications of the lawsuit coupled with House and Senate democrats trying to pass major federal election reforms. "One of the issues that the court may ultimately amplify is that elections were left in the Constitution to the state. Alexander Hamilton actually wrote in the federalist papers imagine if the federal government was to take over the management of elections and he basically said we would all object. Well, that's what's happening now in Congress they are trying to essentially federalize elections and I think they are going to have a serious pushback on this lawsuit."

Georgia state Attorney General Chris Carr, who will be defending the state in court, fired back at the DOJ, telling Fox News the lawsuit is simply a "political campaign flier," and will not be upheld in a court of law.

I think it's a positive move, more people will read about the actual law instead of gross mischaracterizations of it.

The title of this thread is misleading. The laws being passed have nothing to do with fairness.

So wanting clean elections, where access to voting is expanded, has nothing to do with fairness?   Confused

The implication is that elections were somehow unfair and these laws are correcting that. I don't see how that's accurate.

Covid opened the door to wide spread cheating.  Whether you agree that it happened or not isnâ€t the point.  Slamming the door shut on that potential nonsense is what matters.  Politicians taking a stance against said steps is telling as hell

Yes, but the door being opened doesn't mean anyone walked through it and that isn't an issue of fairness. Either party, if the desired, had equal opportunity to cheat.

I think voter IDs are important, but you're ultimately fixing a problem that doesn't exist...kind of like having auto insurance and never getting into an accident

Georgia has had in person voter ID for years. That did not change.
