I have no doubt given their animosity to free speech and open discourse they will be working hard to further erode the first as well. As of now they're making the first amendment somewhat moot. It doesn't seem to bother leftists that they are as keen to ban speech just like totalitarian despots.

Look at the attacks on people for just wearing Make America Great Again hats Looks that the marches and attacks by leftist groups on Trump followers at rallies in various cities. Look at the cancel culture vs artists and actors who are conservative and voice opinion.  Shutting down twitter accts on conservatives is ongoing. Same with shutting down conservative thoughts and views on FB.

Seems to me like a lot of snow flakes around here who complain about every tiny thing.
I'm against all over generalizations.

This in large part is what led me away from being a liberal that I once was. The 18th century French Enlightenment of “liberte†centered around the freedom of expression. Liberals today have done a 180 on the subject, itâ€s now about the complete control of that expression.(03-04-2021, 06:05 PM)3rdgensooner Wrote:This is true. Look at the riots on campus at Berkeley when they brought in conservative speakers.(03-04-2021, 05:57 PM)K9Buck Wrote: The left is called a lot of things, but never an advocate for free speech. The left is very anti free speech. IDK real people are losing real jobs and businesses. A guy was fired from a good job because he said all lives matter. People are afraid to voice opinions not considered acceptable by the woke mob. That isn't healthy. And it will lead to backlash and likely even violence. So speaking out and complaining is reasonable and should be done. No sense in waiting until it's too late.

I see a veritable handful of situations that LOOK dubious being extended to cover the entire country, as if a few examples of excess is somehow an indicator of a mass happening.
I'm against all over generalizations.

If people are being deplatformed, they are effectively being censored.
A question for jacket or Cincy dawg-would you guys agree with the phone company or the electric company refusing service to customers they disagree with politically? Are you cool with book burning as long as you donâ€t like the books getting the torch? It seems to me like you are quite willing to tolerate the banning of viewpoints that you disagree with. I think Alex Jones is a crazed twit, but the Constitution protects ALL viewpoints, not just ones you agree with.

A Virginia teacher was fired because he refused to parrot the proper pronouns. He was supposed to call a transgender man "he" and the teacher refused. So, not only does the left ban speech, but they also force people to say things that they know are untrue.

You literally have to keep your head in the sand to continue to deny how things like this are getting worse. Hollywood and the media have been like this for decades in terms of abusing conservatives and discriminating against them but now it's being applied to the entire culture and country.

YouTube will lift its suspension of former President Donald Trumpâ€s channel once executives determine that “the risk of violence has decreased,†CEO Susan Wojcicki said during an Atlantic Council forum on Thursday.
Wojcicki said the decision to suspend Trumpâ€s account was made after the channel uploaded videos that constituted a violation of YouTubeâ€s “incitement to violence†policy. The YouTube boss said there are “no exceptions†for policy violations. “The channel remains suspended due to the risk of incitement to violence. Given just the warnings by the Capitol police yesterday about a potential attack today, I think itâ€s pretty clear that that elevated violence risk still remains,†Wojcicki said. “However, I do want to confirm that we will lift the suspension of the channel. We will lift the suspension of the Donald Trump channel when we determine that the risk of violence has decreased.â€
