There were government policies, like red line laws, that prevented blacks from getting home loans in specific areas. Home/property ownership is one of the primary ways that wealth is accumulated.
Although that claim was dubious at best, it was addressed by giving home loans to blacks with questionable credit. The result I think was called the Great Crash of 2008.
