It seems that the right is rioting in D.C.
Using Facebook as a source makes as much sense as using Izvestia to report on Putin.

Per Pitch's article:

The post is wrong: Security at the 1.5 million-square-foot U.S. Capitol building does not fall solely to the speaker. Though Pelosi does have a role in the hierarchy overseeing security, there is no indication she controls its day-to-day operations.
Responsibility for Capitol security sharedCapitol security is provided by the sergeants-at-arms , who are the chief law enforcement officers for the House and Senate, in coordination with the Capitol Police, a federal law enforcement agency.
The House sergeant-at-arms reports to the speaker of the House, or Pelosi at the time of the attack. The Senate sergeant-at-arms reports to the Senate majority leader; in the days leading up to and including Jan. 6, that was Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell.

Ok, first of all, has anyone in the "right media" said that security lays solely on Pelosi?  I haven't heard that case made a single time.  I mean, who the hell is saying she is in charge of the day-to-day.  Lmao.  I love these "fact checkers."  Thanks for the big reveal.   Rolleyes

And yes, as I told you, Foghorn Leghorn has some responsibility as well.

Based on the info provided, it sounds like the 4-person board makes all decisions.  Yes, McConnell and Pelosi may be the supervisor of specific people involved, but that's much different than saying either one is making tactical/operational decisions on Capitol security.  I haven't seen any details that would lead me to believe either one had any meaningful input.

Instead of addressing security issues, the committee treated us to "look, squirrel!" And I don't mean the one sitting on Trump's melon.

AFAIK, Pelosi (and I assume Leghorn as well) was briefed about the concerns in advance and had the ability to make the call for more security.  So yeah, they had meaningful input.

I would say that Pelosi/McConnell had oversight authority…and even ability to sway priorities….but obviously they donâ€t make specific strategic decisions. That would fall on the Sergeant at Arms and Capital Police, yes?

Regardless…it was a disaster as there was huge disconnection between on the ground action(holding doors open and essentially giving tours) versus claims(we knew that it was going to be dangerous)….and given its pols that are responsible, I doubt anything changes.

The question is, if you're Nancy or Foghorn, and the people who's job it is to determine security don't believe it's needed, do you, a clear non-expert, overrule them?

I don't blame Nancy, Foghorn or the 4-person board.  I don't think anyone knew just how crazy Trump supporters actually are.  Big Grin

Lesson learned and I bet it won't happen again as long as MAGA is going strong.

Security people determined that it was needed.  That's the whole point.  There were multiple requests for more security.  Multiple.  Yes there were some people directly responsible that blew off the warnings as well.  Multiple people dropped the ball here.  And if we had a real 1-6 committee it would have been addressed, so it never happens again.

Former Capitol police chief in his own words.

"...I've never seen intelligence handled this way before..."

Irving told Sund ahead of the riot that he did not want National Guard troops at the Capitol on Jan. 6 because of bad "optics," the Washington Post and the New York Times reported.

In Feb. 23 testimony before lawmakers, Irving said that "optics" did not play a role in his decision. He said he, Stenger and Sund agreed the intelligence they received didn't warrant the troops.

Which goes against the Jan6 committee who said that they had credible evidence that riots were going to happen…even reports of weapons caching.

Irving must've lied in his testimony as Sund says otherwise, and as you note, according to Wapo and NYT, his/Irving's own words say otherwise.

Sund also mentions that the J6 committee never asked him to testify.  How hilarious is that?  The Capitol police chief.
