This cop is too unstable to be a cop. He needs to be fired. Beating your service dog is not only immoral, it's also DUMB. Departments typically pay THOUSANDS for such dogs and beating the dog can make the dog become unwilling to engage a violent suspect. Â
When training a dog to take on a large, violent, man, the dog ALWAYS wins. Once the dog is nearly complete, it is necessary for the "decoy" (the bad guy) to "fight" with the dog and inflict a certain amount of pain and discomfort on the dog so that the dog gets a feel for what it's like to be in a real fight. It's sort of like football players in practice sometimes need to hit each other hard to prepare for a tough game. Anyway, you NEVER push the dog beyond its capability. A competent trainer and handler will "read" the dog and know if and when the dog is being pushed too far. A dog that is UNWILLING to tolerate some rough treatment by a decoy should NOT be a police K9 nor can it necessarily be counted on to protect in a real-world, violent, altercation. Of course, they can still bark and deter. Â
