I think no matter our views we can all agree we want our lives back as soon as possible. I'm about to go nuts.

I agree. Thank God we have these 2 vaccines that are very efficient and will be distributed very quickly. Another 6 months of this BS would drive me crazy. Knowing relief is right around the corner is a very soothing thought.

CPU is right, I predict that they roll out mask mandates for all sorts of reasons for the foreseeable future and they'll likely keep us locked down until 2022 and everyone will have to prove they've had the vaccine to fly on a plane, go to a concert, or other things.

Let's bookmark our thoughts and revisit them in a year and see if you and I are right.

The fact that simple precautionary actions,  like wearing a mask in public, has become widely politicized is embarrassing for the entire country.  I don't like wearing a mask -nobody does - but if it helps mitigate the spread of Covid, why not wear it?  There will always be the fringe people (like Computerbuck), but the fringe has is no longer just the fringe and sane people are now talking and acting like the crazy fringe.

Except it doesn't help muyigate the spread and is likely causing it to spread more because of particulate accumulation that people easily inhale because of wearing dirty and tainted masks.

Everyone is basically wearing a virus/bacteria Petri dish.

The only way your mask can get contaminated particles is if YOU already have Covid.  And you wearing a mask is meant to protect others from you, which is exactly what it would be doing in the situation you described.

It could get contaminated handling it when you take it off or put it on.

Again, the  mask is meant to protect others from you.  You're also supposed to wash the masks regularly if not daily.  You're also not supposed to take them off or put them on by touching the part that covers your mouth.

Again I'm walking through a store/public place and my masks picks up particulates.

I then touch the mask a few dozen times putting it on my hands.

Then I have it on my hands and likely breathe it into my nose/mouth and eventually my lungs.

It really isn't that complicated.

So again fear mongers; if 90%+ are wearing them and if most people are social distancing, then why are we still seeing cases skyrocket?

Masks aren't meant to protect you from others. It's meant to protect others from you. However, for the sake of discussion, is that better than your mouth picking up particles?

I then touch the mask a few dozen times putting it on my hands.

Masks should be washed regularly and should be handled by the straps.

Then I have it on my hands and likely breathe it into my nose/mouth and eventually my lungs.

Again, would you rather particles gather in your mask IR in your mouth/nose?

It really isn't that complicated.

Agree

So again fear mongers; if 90%+ are wearing them and if most people are social distancing, then why are we still seeing cases skyrocket?

Because masks are meant to help, not cure. Masks may only help 10%, but why not do your part to decrease spread by 10%?

You also gotta love how we all turn on each other while China (the nation) continues to walk between the rain drops, or in this case the drops of particulates.  Trump has, seemingly, even dialed down the China talk.

I look at public mask wearing as 90% psychological/window dressing and about 10% effective.  I wear one for a couple reasons: 1.  the store won't let me in without one, and 2.  It puts the Karens in the store at ease.  Now when I visit my dad in his home/in close quarters, I definitely wear it.  He doesn't even care, but dude... you're 86.  I'm not rolling the dice.  You're being responsible for yourself and mostly staying in your home; I'm not going to risk bringing it into your home.  Folks in his age group and bad health should definitely be staying home, or at least limiting trips to the store as much as humanly possible.  I think I went from March til like October before visiting him.  While avoiding him precisely because he's 86; I also want to visit him... precisely because he's 86.  It's an odd dynamic for sure.

Until Covid came along, I never knew masks only worked in one direction.  All those dry-wallers over the years and all those folks walking the streets of Beijing must've been fools.  So masks stop all of my germs from expelling into the air, but they stop nothing coming from the other direction?   Rolleyes   I think THAT is a big part about the pop culture BS on masks that makes people stop and say, really?  Really?  So this is only about health and nothing else.  I'll guess I'll tell my dad when he goes to the store he can leave his mask behind.  As long as others have theirs on he has nothing to worry about.

"They" need to quit pushing the one direction narrative.  I mean if your goal is to be taken seriously by the general population, you should probably do that.
