-Do I think a corporation working collaboratively with the locality where they are based is a bad thing?  No, of course not.
-This obviously isn't a panacea.
-Could it be a step?  Sure.  But that road is still extraordinarily difficult, and difficult admissions in high crime areas need to be acknowledged and addressed......and this doesn't do that.

Honestly, I think for you that is a fair and reasonable assessment.  The problems in that area won't be solved by more charity and handouts even by corporations instead of the government.  That won't change a thing and as usual the charity will be swallowed up by the crime and evil there.  As we have seen for 50 years, more handouts won't fix a sick, dysfunctional culture.

If so, I think its great they are going to run it at zero profit and reinvest in the community.  Maybe bring some jobs and thus pride into the community, spawning more stores of its type.

Quite frankly I don't think this kind of thing works. If an area is attractive to business it will have businesses and jobs. Trying to force the issue just doesn't work. The exact opposite of what liberals and minorities want is enhanced law enforcement but IMO that would likely be the only thing that would make such an area attractive to businesses and improve a community. If it helps fine. I'm more than a little skeptical and I wouldn't spend money in such a way.
