Zimbabwe comes to America
#1
We all remember the story of how the government of Zimbabwe took land from the white farmers and gave it to blacks.  The result was food shortages and starvation as the blacks were incapable or unwilling to do the work and planning necessary to run a large farm.  Now we get a glimpse of Biden's New America that is going down the same path.  And no, this isn't the Onion or Babylon Bee.

A new Senate bill, called the Justice for Black Farmers Act, set to be released November 30, would mount a long-delayed federal effort to reverse the “destructive forces that were unleashed upon Black farmers over the past century—one of the dark corners of shame in American history,” lead sponsor Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) told [i]Mother Jones.

Co-sponsored with senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), the bill would, among other things, create an Equitable Land Access Service within the USDA, including a fund that devotes $8 billion annually to buying farmland on the open market and granting it to new and existing Black farmers, with the goal of making 20,000 grants per year over nine years, with maximum allotments of 160 acres. It would also fund agriculture-focused historically Black colleges and universities as well and nonprofits like the Northeast Farmers of Color Land Trust to help identify land for the USDA to purchase, and “help new Black farmers get up and running, provide farmer training, and provide other assistance including support for development of farmer cooperatives,” the billâ€s summary states. What were the destructive forces unleashed against black farmers that weren't unleashed against white farmers?   Dodgy

I mean let's get real about math too.  How many black farmers really are there?  I'm sure there's a nice contingent in the south, but beyond that?  Most blacks live in urban areas.  Overwhelmingly so.  So what are they going to do, use govt money to teach people how to farm that really have no interest in farming?  What could go wrong?   Rolleyes

Waste, starvation, and complete chaos is a small price to pay for social justice.

Notice how the board Lefties never show up to defend this insanity?

1) who says they are going to be trying to teach blacks who have no desire to learn, how to farm?

2) what are the odds that this bill gets out of the Senate?

3) How different is this than current farm bills that pay farmers not to grow crops?

No longer GroupThink 'woke'.  but it was fun while it lasted.

Don't you know this will lead to waste and starvation and we're going to be exactly like Zimbabwe?   All those big agribusinesses will disappear when you attempt to get minorities into a business and learn skills.  What a terrible thing.   Pretty much anyone who hates this idea is epitome of racist really as they view this blacks unable to do what whites do.   Never thought I'd see white supremacy displayed this blatantly.   Here it is.

1.  The story mentions 20K grants per year given to existing and new farmers.  My point is where are all these new black farmers going to come from?  Most urban kids, black or white, aren't interested in farming in any way, shape or form.

2.  Depends how Georgia goes.  Filibuster GONE if those seats aren't still in GOP hands.

3.  Yes, the feds are too involved in the farming business.  Paying people NOT to do something is pretty idiotic.  That said, handing out land grants to a non existent pool of prospects is beyond insane.  My hunch is this is an attempt at relocating people.   This is about winning future  elections and maintaining power.  Think about it.  I mean, all those black kids wearing their bib overalls just chomping at the bit to get out there and farm?  Ooooookaaaayyyy.   Rolleyes

Of course it would create another department within the USDA with a starting budget of 8 bill. , nah only chump change. Novel suggestion, what not help ALL farmers who are struggling and teach them in addition too the black farmers...

It's funny how people who consider themselves hard core conservatives are coming into the thread to practically defend this idiotic idea.

Good idea.   Agree.  The Cory Bookers and those like him are not going away no matter how much we dislike their ideas.  I guess toleration is gone with some but that is fine.  I let people for most part post their opinions.  This thread is proof.   But I agree we should help all.

Can someone name one Democrat welfare program that didn't explode and wind up costing much much more than the original legislation claimed?

This has nothing to do with white supremacy.  It's simply insane.  There simply isn't a massive untapped pool of future black farmers.  This is silly.  This, IMO anyway, is social engineering and election insurance.  Turn more states blue, etc...   Taxpayer dollars to do this?  Really?  20k grants per year over 9 years?  180K farms?  You're going to find 180K black kids that are reeeeeeally just chomping at the bit to become farmers?  Dodgy

Well let's just say comparing black American farmers to who Mugabe gave farms to isn't really a valid comparison especially given the differing systems of government and overall development. Marxist governments have managed to starve their populations with white and Asian farmers too. So not a very valid comparison.
For the most part it just seems like a poorly thought out reparations type of thing. It's liberals so poorly thought out is a given.

On the surface maybe so but our farms feed the world and provide us with an abundance of inexpensive food at our fingertips.  This program however, reeks of idiocy and will accomplish nothing outside of fleecing the taxpayer so Democrats can pander and buy black votes.

I'm not championing this to be a 100% success or great idea.   If you read between the lines with all comments you'll see.  We are not going to have mass starvation nor become Zimbabwe or Venezuela in the least but SOME proclaim all this.  There are reasons.
