K9BuckBack in the mid-70's I remember my 9 year-old buddy buying cigarettes
#13
I lived over seas age 6-9 and in most places kids could have some wine of beer with meals so I did. Got a little tipsy a couple of times. So I was always allowed to have a beer or glass of wine with dinner growing up.
My parents would never send me for cigarettes. They hid them from me because I hated them with a passion. Still do. I'd throw them out the window of the car if they didn't watch them. No worries about me smoking I've never even had a puff and never will. Our H.S had a smoking area too but you had to be 18. Although all the smokers smoked in the bathrooms.
I remember going to the Hilton in Las Vegas with my dad when I was 17. I said let's play Craps. He says you have to be 21. I laughed. While we were playing craps a waitress came by and gave me a free beer. I almost got religion, I swear I heard heavenly horns. My dad was pizzed and said he got carded until he was 35. I said that's your problem baby face. I was never carded. Not once and started buying beer at 15.

When we were kids and at Catholic weddings all the kids drank beer at a very early age. I think it was considered a holy obligation in Mercer county lol.
Friggin hilarious Jmesser. I was born in Coldwater and yes the Mercer County Catholic weddings were a drunk fest for teenagers. I was 15 ordering "highballs" all night.

My Catholic HS in the 70's had a smoking area beside the school.

The Baseball dugouts were called the drug outs as thats where all the heads were before school and at lunch getting high.

At the BMV they used to issue paper driver license's before you got the picture ones. My friend reached over the counter when the clerk wasn't looking and grabbed a handful.
Sold them around school for $20 a lot of money back then.
We had the girls in typing class type them out with names and birth dates on them. Most of us went with 21 , but a few did 19 . You could buy 3.2 beer at 18 . Just to not throw up any red flags.
They worked great.
Except my one buddy spent his 18th Birthday in jail. Made the mistake of going in a convinces store we all knew was notorious for double checking ID's. The Manager knew it wasn't him and called the Police. Nice weekend in jail for him.

Yep, those ciggy machines were in many of the sit down restaurants.....

I started working in a Radiation Oncology unit at 18 and that took away any temptation to try out the tobacco products....the condition some of those people came in with was enough.

We did buy the candy cigarettes though....

No longer GroupThink 'woke'.  but it was fun while it lasted.

Candy cigarettes are quite tasty. I always enjoyed those. Bubble gum cigars as well. Back in the day all us little leaguers had big league chew as well. I was pretty into the fake tobacco products lol.
