Beijing has had a spate of cases in the last week/10 days, so the virus protocols have significantly ratcheted up. They are doing massive amount of nucleic acid testing all across Beijing. Our office group had to go this morning. This is set up outside in parks. Today it is 12 F with a 25mph wind (-11 C with 40kph wind), so it was a bit brisk outside while we waited in line. That said, I was impressed with the efficiency of it all in testing such significant numbers in so short a time.
I have no clue when we will be vaccinated.

Do half get the meds and the other half get the placebo? Or is it more like a 60/40, or 80/20 thing?Almost all the trials are 50/50 but for some reason AstraZeneca went 2 to 1 vaccine to placebo. That will make the trial take longer if the vaccine works because itâ€ll take longer to see enough cases.

How much do you trust the gov there regarding anything about covid?  (Or maybe you shouldnt answer that) The challenge in China is not their ability to figure things out scientifically/medically, it has more to do with getting the information properly represented as it goes through the chain of government review. Something that is an issue in the US as well. The Chinese government can act with more efficiency and speed than the US government but it is more difficult to deal with what might be seen as not good news.

So I unblinded from the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine study. I did get immunized against COVID. They then recommended I don't get the Pfizer vaccine and kind of freaked out when I said I was going to anyway. I'll tell the doc supervising the vaccinations where I'm going. But AZ and Pfizer are going to run a Phase 3 trial using both vaccines in the UK and the reasons why makes sense. The CDC recommends people who have had COVID get the vaccine as well. My main issue is what would be the best timing? Should I space it a bit more? The max antibody response for the Oxford vaccine in Phase 2 was 45 days which was Christmas Eve for me.Â
Am I going to be less cautious? Probably. Not stupid and careless but I'm not sitting home as much from here on out. But I'll follow guidelines I don't want to get a mild case and spread it to coworkers and patients.
