There were some great outfielders in the 60s and 70s. I can recall an All Star game, several in fact, where the NL outfield was Clemente, Mays, and Aaron. Clemente was one of my favorites even though I didn't like the team.

From 1909-19, Cobb batted at least .368 in every single season, leading the majors in batting average in 10 of those 11 years. The lone exception was 1916, when Cobb batted .371 while Speaker hit .386.

Cobb batted over .400 three times, the first of which came in 1911. He hit .420 that year with 127 RBI, 83 stolen bases and 47 doubles, winning American League MVP for a Detroit Tigers team that finished 13.5 games out of first place. He hit .409 the following season and checked in at .401 a decade later in 1922.

A long time ago obviously, but some seriously deranged stats there. Nobody will come close to that decade in BA.

Your list is close to mine.  I just don't see where any list of 3b does not have Brooks Robinson.  Reliever I can see why people choose Rivera but Rollie Fingers saves were 2-3 innings.

Brooks Robinson is my favorite AL player. I kept him off the list simply because I wanted to be impartial. Same with my favorite NL player Roberto Clemente.

I think we should be able to list favorite players also, even if they are a bit short of GOATs.

The best player I ever met in person is - I think - Dale Murphy. I did meet Johnny Mize very briefly when I was a kid.

The Murph is a great guy, hilarious stories, just one of the group. I met Rico Carty in January, also a great player, once his a home run that the shortstop jumped for. He told me he got to second and asked where the ball went and had to be told it was out.

Also met Terry Pendleton, another great guy with stories, and Andruw Jones, a player who would have been HoF but for injuries.

When I was in Little League there was a sponsored train trip to Kansas City to watch a Yankees, Royals double header.  Saw all the great Yankees hit homers, Mantle, Maris, Berra, Elston Howard, Bill Skowron and more, I am sure.  The Royals really sucked.  Great trip for a 10 year old.

Saw those guys probably about the same time frame at Tiger Stadium.

That's a cool experience. It must have been fun watching baseball then. I started watching the time Baltimore played Cincinnati in the WS.

Back in the day teams had an identity.  Same players pretty much every year, so you could really get behind them and know the team.  Nowadays players are here one day, gone the next.  Whores for whoever will pay them a couple more bucks.  Guess I can't blame them for taking what they can, but it sure dampened my enthusiasm for the game.  I used to go to many Dodger and Padre games but swore them off after the second player strike.
