Song was on an album released in 1980. Released in Europe as a single in 1981. Charted on the top 50 in America even though not released as a single. Song lyrics mention 3 celebrities and two were popular actors. Not a one hit wonder by any means.
Song name and artist.
"Hightop can reduce an entire message board of men to mudsharks. It's actually pretty funny to watch."

I was immediately going to say that tune that mentions "Bogie and McCall," but that was definitely from a one hit wonder. I don't even remember the guy's name. Gonna have to ponder a bit to give a real response.

Are we needing another hint?

But that was a single and I think a number one. but around the right time. The other one that popped into my head was James Dean but that was way earlier.

Three celebrities mentioned by name. Two were actors and one a race car driver.

Ooh. Cadillac Ranch by Bruce Springsteen?

I was thinking Pink Cadillac, but I knew that was on Born in the USA in 84 and didn’t recall any lyrics on celebrities. I knew there was a Cadillac song on The River as well, but I didn’t know how that went.

This artist was in studio with Stevie Wonder and came up with a drum beat that Stevie Wonder improvised an entire song over that later became a big hit for Stevie.
Stevie did give the artist the right to release the song himself with his new band which he did a few months after but it did not chart. Actually I'm not sure if it was released as a single or just on their album. Who was the artist, the song, and his new band? By the way the artist is not known as a drummer.

Superstition was a favorite of mine at that time. Kind of a unique sound. Little Stevie was really in a groove there for a few years.

Stevie has more talent in his little fingernail clippings than just about all the musical acts of this century combined. He played all the instruments on that except the horns. Any guess on the band? One studio album. They would play "Shotgun" live as well like the band the drummer and bassist had been with. |
