She performed what had been her first top 40 solo hit released a couple of years earlier in 1970. What was the song?

She had one in like 67 or 68, but that was with the Stone Ponies, correct? Name of it is escaping me at the moment. Anyway you say yours is from 1970. Hmmmmm.... Â
edit: I remember now. Different Drum was a big one, but again I'm pretty sure that was like 67 or 68

The Stone Poneys had a hit with Different Drum in 1967. She performed the song live on Johnny Cash's show as well. It's a ballad.

As I ponder this one I'll put up a gratuitous pic of her. Man was she a beauty in her prime. Â

She was Mary Ann (as in Ginger) x2 in her prime. I saw a picture of her not too long ago, she has not aged well.

Love will abide, take things in stride
Sounds like good advice but there's no one at my side And time washes clean love's wounds unseen That's what someone told me but I don't know what it means 'Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine

She had that late 60s thing going where she sort of reminded me of Judy Collins/Joan Baez. I was going to throw one out there -- One Tin Soldier, but after I thought of it I looked it up. Yeah... NOT her.   Â
Anyway, Linda was much better after she sold out.   I'll keep grinding, but I doubt I ever get this. Hopefully someone else steps up.

Apparently she thought she was floundering as a solo artist with no hits from her first album. A songwriter played this for her and she wanted to record it immediately but had trouble getting it down at first. She credits having this hit the charts giving her time to find her way as a singer. She was nominated for a Grammy in 1971 for this song.

C'mon the first top 40 hit for the biggest female act of the 70s. Surely someone has a guess at least.
