Back when our society/govt treated free adults like free adults, there was a designated smoking area at my place of work.  Now these people have to go outside to smoke.  People that didn't like to be around smoke would--get this--avoid the designated smoking area.

They were really dumb when they did the smoking ban in Michigan and of course it hurt the bars. Places set up small sheds/warming huts for the smokers to smoke in outside the bars. Then they said you can't do that. Why? I have no clue. Of course the casinos were exempt from the entire ban.

When I was in school they converted a room adjacent to the gym into a "senior lounge "
On opening day I placed McDonald's  ash trays on the tables and cigarette butts/ashes from home in them.
Within minutes  everyone assumed we had permission to smoke in there, and smoke they did. Holy *****. The admin went NUTS.
A practical joke I'm most proud of  and I was never caught.

A smoking ban for bars may be the most hostile act toward private business as a whole I can recall off the top of my head.  It's a B A R.  People go there to drink, smoke and socialize.  Again, it's a B A R!

I voted against the indoor smoking ban in Columbus circa 2000/01.
I thought individual establishments should be able to decide how to run their businesses.

Now...going places without smoking indoors, it's great.
I've gone out of town and been in restaurants where smoking is still allowed and I'm like "Whaaa? Dafuq?"

Anyway, for most places with patios, you have to be X amount of feet from an entrance to smoke.
Also, if there is some sort of enclosure, those rules don't apply.

Scarlett, a lot of people said that it would hurt business here at bars and restaurants when smoking was banned in them several years ago.  It did the exact opposite.

I can't take smelling smoke.   Clogs up my sinus as I'm sensitive to it.

Yeah it doesn't seem to have affected restaurants, but I can't imagine bars not being affected by it.  I guess the proof is in the pudding.  If they're still in business then no harm done.  I just can't buy into the principle of the matter.  These are private businesses.  Especially businesses sans bars and restaurants.  How is it even possible that govt can force them into this crap?

We have a govt force problem in this country.  Local, state and federal.  It's out of control.  It's time to dial this ***** back.

The bar and pub business especially new craft beer places have exploded here.  I know the owner of possibly the most successful pub in town who has been open over 25 years.  He will confirm everything I said about how getting rid of smoking brought more and more people into the bars.
