Not first hand?  We mustâ€ve read different NT Bibles.  Paulâ€s first hand knowledge came on the road to D town.  The other contributors were apostles of the in the flesh Christ.  They gave their individual accounting from their POV. Â
Ridiculous stories usually come apart well before over 2k years have passed.

ÂSorry it was written after him and it isn't first hand. The Bible is fiction, that isn't where you get info. Of course the ridiculous story came apart immediately. I'm sure people will be believing moohomoeds and Joseph Smith's BS for another thousand years too. What's that have to do with anything? Let's see I created the entire freaking Universe and the best way I can get a message( a rather idiotic message) across is to have some guy wander around a small part of the Middle East for a few years. Yeah that's believable.

They were first hand accounts in letters written to encourage fellow followers.  What difference does it make how long after witnessing an event the accounts were written?  They wrote them in their lifetimes.  And yeah, 2k years is plenty of time to poke holes in an account. Â
As for Joe Smith I donâ€t know much of him, but Christianity has many sects.  The core principle typically remains the same throughout them all.  I mean Iâ€m pretty sure magic underwear guy believed in Christ as well.  You had first hand witness accounts get out even when the establishment of the time was dead set against that info circulating.  Less than 100 years ago we fought a world war started by a failed artist and errand boy from WWI.  He almost managed to wipe out every Jew from the European continent via the construction of death camps.  As WWII vets pass on the more unbelievable that story will get to future generations.  Yet it actually happened.

Man on the Street Report.
1. For the first official day back to work, the roads this morning were are 30-40% of what they normally would be. 2. Chinese people outside of China are claiming racism as non-Chinese are avoiding them due to the fear of the virus. But inside China, the same thing is happening, but no claims of racism, hmmmm. Chinese people (non-Wuhan) are avoiding Wuhan people due to the fear of the virus.

This morning the report is that there are about 17,200 cases with 361 dead. Figure is showing a modest slowing of the growth of cases the last couple of days.

ÂSomehow the wording of other ancient texts are taken as “gospel†but the the Word of the Bible is suspect.

What is left out of the story is that I, the father and builder of the house, made up the rules whereby my own son had to be brutally killed. A little strange, right? An additional twist: Most Christians are taught/believe that Jesus and God are the same being. Jesus is the physical incarnation of God. If that is true, then God sacrificed himself, to himself, to protect mankind from himself.

It's definitely possible that we've gone over this before. But seriously, isn't it odd that God created that scenario ? Of course he knew. Like the Bible says, God is surprised by nothing.  When he created Adam and Eve, and allowed the snake to bait then into failure, it was exactly what he wanted and knew would happen.

Points to the likelihood that it's not all about us. Spiritual beings/angels probably couldn't conceive redemption. Perhaps this was partly for their benefit to witness something like that? Also there's the angle that there's an added possibility of *earned* worship. Don't get me wrong, you create the heavens and the earth and everything in them, yeah you earned worship. But someone that truly saved you from the abyss? Saved you by setting aside power and laying down his life. The only conceivable thing we can relate that to is a parent/kid relationship. You'd do anything for your kids because you love them, right?

For the sake of not taking the discussion completely off track, and derailing the thread, I'll just say that the dynamic between God and man, if you really think about it, is far from a normal, healthy parent/kid relationship. |
