The Electoral College

The interesting thing here is that I THINK this approach is Constitutional, and a way to get to a popular vote indirectly.

Let's say Colorado goes Republican but the national popular vote is Democrat, so all the CO electors would vote Democratic.

Which is even more of a stupid approach.  People in CO should literally stop voting if this bill passes.

It may be "stupid", whatever that means, and it also may happen.

I lean to thinking it will in fact. They are getting closer.

Yeah, it may be that, and it could really come to pass anyway.

Some think a popular vote is "stupid". It's an opinion.

Republicans are far more likely to think it stupid.

Democrats generally think the EC is stupid.

Imagine is this happened for real and some Republican President won the popular vote and so ended up with all the electors from CA and NY and NJ voting for him when their states voted 70:30 the other way.

That might not go over so well, some might think it was stupid.

I look at it as right and wrong.  No person's vote should count more than another person's vote and all votes should count.  The EC ensures that about half the votes don't count and some peoples' votes count more than others.

How does EC mean half the votes don't count?

Pitchblack, do you think the US Senate should not exist?

The senate serves a different purpose.  Senators represent their state.  Larger states should have more representation because they represent a larger portion of the population.  Like states use a popular vote for all elected positions, the country should also.  The people,  not states, should elect a president.

Our FFs were as afraid of a democracy as they were a dictator or king.

I think their reasoning was sound, and remains sound, overall. I favor retaining the Senate and the EC as is.
