The interesting thing here is that I THINK this approach is Constitutional, and a way to get to a popular vote indirectly.
Let's say Colorado goes Republican but the national popular vote is Democrat, so all the CO electors would vote Democratic.

It may be "stupid", whatever that means, and it also may happen.
I lean to thinking it will in fact. They are getting closer.

Yeah, it may be that, and it could really come to pass anyway.
Some think a popular vote is "stupid". It's an opinion.
Republicans are far more likely to think it stupid.
Democrats generally think the EC is stupid.

Imagine is this happened for real and some Republican President won the popular vote and so ended up with all the electors from CA and NY and NJ voting for him when their states voted 70:30 the other way.
That might not go over so well, some might think it was stupid.

Our FFs were as afraid of a democracy as they were a dictator or king.
I think their reasoning was sound, and remains sound, overall. I favor retaining the Senate and the EC as is.
