If you march in a 'pro-confederate" rally, you should be willing to publicly state if you think it would have been a good thing for the South to have emerged victorious-with the obvious consequences for blacks. They should also say if they support treason against the United States-which the whole Confederate experiment obviously was.

Lincoln and Grant obviously thought it was in the best interest of the nation if returning Confederate soldiers were not prosecuted-and I don't disagree with that. Doesn't mean they didn't engage in a highly treasonous act-they just were offered collective amnesty for it.
I just wish all the people hemming and hawing about how great the Confederacy was would have the intellectual cojones to say if they feel a Confederate victory would have been a better outcome for the nation AND future race relations.

I like history, a lot. It comprises most of my reading. I also drag the wife around to various Civil War sites (and WW II sites in Europe).

Statues are NOT history. IMHO, it should be left to the locals to decide what to do with statues. Put'em in a museum or cemetery, fine, nobody is learning history from a statue of any depth and accuracy.

The city here just renamed Confederate Avenue something else, I forget what. Fine with me.

I think in the main too much is made of all of this with all the virtue signaling going on.

I'm 50% Ukrainian and 50% English/Irish-I could care less about what a Norwegian or Armenian or German thinks b/c they share the same melanin combination as myself. Ethnic pride is great-but don't go around trying to claim other cultures as your own based on shared skin color and nothing else.
The Chinese government understands this, in a negative way. They basically practice a form of internal apartheid/Jim Crow against non-Han Chinese minorities-about 10% of the population. These people look Chinese/Asian and speak Mandarin, but they are not Han Chinese and are discriminated against as such.
