I wonder what is the number of people trying to cross the border? I seem to recall that the number of border crossings has gone up significantly since Trump became president. If that is so, then the ratio of people who have died vs those have crossed is even a more relevant number.
I mean, what kind of murderous concentration camps was Obama running down there?

The increase, I think, is with folks seeking asylum, at least a lot of it.

And this one, too
“However, as an analysis by National Review highlighted, Trump also likely benefitted from a drop in overall illegal border crossings, a trend that was sparked during Bushâ€s second term.â€

Lmao.  Sorry, but... C'mon.  There was wall talk at the end of dubya's tenure, but it's been Katy bar the door for the most part since.  These organized caravans, etc...  Admittedly probably at least partly  sparked by Trumps's wall talk.  Which has me circling back.  Wall talk starts toward the end of Dubya and that brings down illegal crossings?  Trump's talk has likely increased attempts.  Something aint jibing with logic here.

There was a bill signed by Dubya in 2006 to "build a wall", really a barrier over portions of the border. Some of it got built of course. Later Congress defunded it under Obama.

At then end of W†s term there was this little calamity called the Great Recession.

“But the reality is that deaths at the U.S-Mexico border decreased after Donald Trump became president,†the analysis stated. “The fact remains that the totals from 2017 (298) and 2018 (283) are two of the lowest since 1999 – and there was no mass outcry in earlier years with much higher numbers.â€

Didn't read article.  Is that what they were hinting at, or were they crediting dubya's policy?  Sounded like they were hinting at Dubya's wall talk (well, from what you posted anyway).  Common sense says border security/wall talk will create a short term surge in traffic.  Essentially open borders will create a continuous stream.  Anyway, whatever the case, crediting dubya for any slow down is just laughably absurd on its face.  If you (writer of article) don't want to give Trump credit for anything, then just come out and say it already.  This notion that there was some sustained slowdown already in place is just insulting to anyone's intelligence.  Silly.
