As are drug treatment programs and wasting health care resources to assist and save drug abusers and those shot in the process of buying and selling.Â
How far do you take this concept? Do you deny treatment for people who are obese because of poor eating habits? Â
Just go back to convicting drug users as felons, take them off the street for 6 or 8 years and forget about the war on distribution.

We at least should examine the Portuguese experience to see if it would apply here beneficially.

You complain about the cost of the war on drugs yet people like you are creating a massive and much more expensive drug problem in America. You want legalization yet you fail to accept responsibility for what happens afterward with a massive increase in drug use. Then you want to use our money and flush it down the drug user toilet for health care for them. And then on top of that you don't want to incarcerate drug users who also commit 90% of the larceny crimes in the country. What you are really going to do is turn America into a sh*t hole of crime and drug users and you are well on the way now after winning decriminalization of drug use. You are so hung up with your slogans and talking points you don't even see the damage you do.

In a perfect world, there would be no health insurance or health insurance for only major issues... like cancer. Things like drug treatment would be paid for 100% out of pocket. Ideally, addicts would kill themselves off via overdose.

Prohibition is a different subject and anyone who equates consumption of alcohol to drug abuse is not rational.

Incorrect. Alcohol use/Alcoholism is a major issue. Is it as addictive as heroin or meth? No, but it is very addictive, results in huge medical bills, puts a ton of people in jail, drives up the costs of auto insurance. So, did you support prohibition?

It is not the same. What percent of consumers of alcohol would steal from their own mother or place their lives in danger each day to feed their drinking habits? Your comparison is standard drug lobby/stoner talking point but it just doesn't fit.

So that's the measure of whether the government allows you to use something? Ok, well I can assume you support weed legality, right? Weed isn't nearly as addictive as alcohol so nobody is going to steal from anyone to buy it.
BTW, are you planning to outlaw poverty?

The government "wars" on things don't seem to have been very effective.

Of course. The government sucks at everything it does compared to the private sector.

The EPA has been fairly successful, actually, as government agencies go, as measured by air and water quality improvements over time. I'm trying to think which agency I'd put in 2nd place.
