Very true.  We have troops stationed all over the world from Germany to Japan and we can't fix our porous border?

No argument again.   THEY could be trained and it COULD Be a priority if congress wanted it to be.   Do we have troops in S Korea to keep N Korea from coming across their border?

It's just an incredible concept: The USA spend BILLIONS on defense but we have thousands of illegals skipping and running across our southern border.  The USA can't defend its OWN border.

The military obviously is trained to confront a military invasion. North Korea would be sending across armed troops, not the same thing at all.

And we have posse comitatus as a factor. The military can assist Border Patrol, but from the rear area, in effect. They can change the oil on the BP trucks and monitor video and even string concertina wire. But when you consider their basic training, they are not trained for this sort of activity (border patrol).

The is a reason calling out the NG can result in unintended consequences.

The mistake is thinking the govt wants to keep illegals out.

Our military is trained to oppose armed invaders with ROEs that pertain to armed conflict, not some unarmed illegals trying to cross a border. This is a pretty simple concept and no doubt why Trump has not called on the military to do much on the border beyond some REMF support.

But, if you think we should put our military on the southern border, fine with me. That would be entertaining. We actually don't have that many in the Army say standing around doing nothing right now who could be used without taking them away from their normal duties, like say training, or keeping civilians out of Area 51.
