Does it matter? Do you think government should have the power to tell you that you cannot read foreign media?

It’s not foreign media. It’s a foreign company known for hacking, stealing information, stealing intelligence, and more. I have no issue limiting our enemy’s access to our country.

Stop drinking the Kool-aid. The Washington Establishment wants it banned because many users on the app bash them and they hate transparency and criticism.

Koolaid?  TikTok is a part of Bytedance. Bytedance is owned by zhang Yiming…

In September 2015, ByteDance launched its video-sharing app TikTok (known as Douyin in China) with little fanfare. The product was an instant hit with millennials and became popular worldwide. ByteDance bought Musical.ly a year later for US$800 million and integrated it into TikTok.[12]

In 2018, the National Radio and Television Administration shut down ByteDance's first app, Neihan Duanzi. In response, Zhang issued an apology, writing that the app was "incommensurate with socialist core values" and had a "weak" implementation of Xi Jinping Thought, and promised that ByteDance would "further deepen cooperation" with the ruling Chinese Communist Party to promote its policies better.

Is there any specific evidence you can point to that justifies your desire to ban TikTok?

Banning TikTok will have ZERO effect on China's espionage efforts. Banning TikTok will HURT countless American and help the corrupt Washington Establishment. It is censorship.

How many Americans do you think/know get their news off of TikTok?

Interestingly, it seems more Democrats get their news off TikTok than Republicans. More women than men…which follows the voting…

According to a Pew Research Center analysis, 17% of U.S. adults regularly get news from TikTok, which is a fivefold increase from 2020. This is the fastest growth rate of any social media platform that Pew has studied since 2020.
Here are some other facts about Americans who get news from TikTok:
Age
Most TikTok news consumers are under 50, with 45% between the ages of 18 and 29 and 38% between 30 and 49. Just 4% are 65 and older.
Gender
62% of regular TikTok news consumers are women, while 36% are men.
Political party
55% of regular TikTok news consumers are Democrats, while 39% are Republicans.
Source of news
TikTok news consumers are more likely to get news from influencers and celebrities than users on other platforms. About two-thirds (68%) of TikTok news consumers say they ever get news from influencers and celebrities.
TikTok is especially popular among teens, with 63% reporting ever using the platform.

News, sports, weather, politics, history, animals, health, religion, music, cooking, etc., etc., etc.  Google says 170 MILLION Americans are on TikTok. The government should not have the power to eliminate this amazing resource from the American people.

There's a plethora of excellent conservative and Christian content on the app. But again, the American people should be able to watch whatever they want.

Let me add this. Anyone who may have VERY valuable informal on their phone should probably NOT have many apps on that phone. Many have work & personal phones for that reason.

It's frightening that the mouth breathers are getting "news" off of dum dum. That's aside the CCP using it for hostile purposes.

Why?

The fact that you ask that means I'm looking at 5+ pages of time-wasting back and forth if I engage in this conversation.

Hard pass.

Now this might be the greatest example of irony in mankind's history.

I kind of agree. Unless it is proven that TikTok is an active-not potential-conduit for ChiCom intelligence, it remains a 1st Amendment issue.

I just doubt that they're getting any real hard intelligence through the app. Anyone with significantly valuable information on their device should avoid TikTok and a bunch of others. Otherwise TikTok is more or less just a successful CCP business.
