Under normal circumstances the convicted felon tag would've sunk a candidacy.  With the events of the summer, along with the further emergence of social media, the old paradigm is dying.  

Trump may have won anyway (we'll never know for certain), but surviving an assassin's bullet pretty much sealed the deal.

I think that whole charade convinced more independents to vote for Trump. I think it was counterproductive.

I'm pretty confident his defiant fist pump, after having part of his ear blown off, was probably a bigger player in his win than serving up some Big Macs.  The Big Mac thing certainly didn't hurt, but I don't see it counteracting a convicted felon tag like surviving an assassin's bullet would
