Gunshots fired into air in parking lot after Male High School football game, no one hurt
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Gunshots were fired into the air after the Male High School vs Pleasure Ridge Park football game on Friday night. According to a letter sent home to parents by principal Keith Cathey, the gunshots were heard in the Gheens parking lot as people were leaving the game. No one was injured and it's yet to be determined if any Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) students were involved. This is a good one. 5th grader at JCPS school, Goldsmith Elementary, robbed by fellow 5th grader, a 17 year old immigrant from Senegal.
Louisville family says teen charged with robbing 5th grade JCPS student is her classmate LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fifth-grade girl at Goldsmith Elementary School walked into the apartment building where she lives with her family earlier this month. She had her pink backpack on, returning from school just after 5:30 p.m. Just a couple minutes later, a young man with an orange mask covering his face ran out the door, the girl's family chasing after him. Surveillance video from outside the building that day — Sept. 15 — captures the comings and goings. The girl's mother said the suspect took her daughter's cellphone and spanked her before running out. Police eventually caught the suspect and charged him with robbery. But his name hasn't been publicly released because, despite the fact that he's believed to be at least 17 years old, the victim's family said he's enrolled in Goldsmith Elementary as a fifth-grader. The family said the two are in different fifth grade classes. "He knows her and he broke into my house," the victim's mother said in an interview through a translator, as she only speaks Spanish. "The first day, I think it was August. ... He broke into her room to steal her computer." Louisville Metro Police said the suspect was charged with robbery for the September 15th robbery... and, after consulting with the Commonwealth's Attorney Office, he was charged as a juvenile. But police don't know his exact age. Police said the alleged teenager was released to his parents. Sources told WDRB the suspect is from Senegal and his family's immigration papers claim he's 10 years old. But sources say his family also produced documents that say he's 17. Carolyn Callahan, Chief Communications Officer with JCPS, said last week she didn't have any information regarding the case. But this week, she said the district follows documentation provided by the family to determine enrollment. "Due to state and federal student privacy laws we are unable to provide information about individual students," Callahan said in a written statement. "Again, JCPS follows state enrollment guidelines based on the paperwork families/guardians provide." The girl's family said they want justice for their daughter and questions how JCPS let this happen. "If they don't make a determination, then I will make one," her mother said. LMPD said the Department of Homeland Security is now investigating. https://www.wdrb.com/wdrb-investigates/l...3e0e1.html

Fight breaks out between player, assistant football coach at JCPS high school
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - An assistant coach on the Pleasure Ridge Park football team was suspended after JCPS said a fight broke out involving a player. The incident took place on Sept. 26 during practice. JCPS sent a letter home to families saying a player was injured in the fight. When the player’s family showed up to take him to a doctor, JCPS said another fight broke out between a family member and the assistant coach. The coach was told not to attend practices or games until further notice while the investigation continues. “We’re proud of our PRP football team and hope our players and other coaches will not be distracted by this unfortunate incident,” the letter read. 2 men charged after chaotic fight on a JCPS bus in St. Matthews on Wednesday LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two men face charges following a chaotic fight on the Jefferson County School bus in St. Matthews on Wednesday afternoon. Terrence Bevly, 18, and Nicolas Byrd, 19, both of Louisville, were arrested for disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer, menacing and resisting arrest. Court records show St. Matthews Police were sent to the 4900 block of Shelbyville Road at about 5 p.m. to respond to a JCPS bus incident. When officers arrived at the parking lot of a fast food restaurant near Bowling Boulevard, the bus driver told police that while she was driving, kids were fighting and smoking weed. The driver said when she confronted the kids, a "giant argument ensued" between her and the students on board. She called 911 for assistance. The arrest report said children were calling their family members, who then arrived on the scene, including Bevly and Byrd. The bus driver told police she tried to drive back to the school, but "the kids on the bus continued to yell and distract the driver." She decided to drive back to the parking lot for the safety of the children. The arrest report said the officer got on the bus to talk to the driver, who told police she felt threatened by Bevly and Byrd, and felt as "though she was in danger of imminent physical injury." That's when the officer said Bevly went to the driver-side window of the bus and started arguing with the driver. The officer said he told the men to leave, but they refused multiple times. Another bus was called to the parking lot to pick up the students and finish the route. Video has been posted on social media showing a chaotic scene and multiple people involving an altercation. JCPS chief communications officer Carolyn Callahan released a statement on Thursday that said "JCPS is investigating the incident that took place yesterday afternoon. The driver of the bus will not be driving during the investigation." Both Bevly and Byrd are scheduled to be in court Oct. 16.
