Mom ran over 7-year-old after making him walk home from school for getting in trouble, police say



A 27-year-old mother in Alabama was arrested last week for allegedly taking the punishment of her 7-year-old son too far when she forced the boy to walk home from school, an endeavor that ended with her running him over with her car.

Sarai Rachel James was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with one count of felony aggravated child abuse over the alleged incident, records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

A 53-year-old woman named Carla Mae Owens was in the vehicle being driven by James when she allegedly struck her child. Owens was also arrested and charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, which is a misdemeanor.

According to the Boaz Police Department, the principal at the school James’ son attends contacted James on Feb. 8 and told her that the boy had gotten into trouble earlier in the school day, court documents obtained by AL.com reportedly state.

Man gets 25 years to life in prison for fatally shooting woman who mistakenly drove into his driveway

The man who shot and killed a young woman when she and her friends accidentally took a wrong turn and drove up his upstate New York driveway has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for her murder.


Kevin Monahan, 66, was found guilty in January of the second-degree murder of Kaylin Gillis, 20, in April 2023.

At a sentencing hearing in Washington County on Friday morning, Judge Adam Michelini handed down his sentence, telling Monahan that he had taken away “so much unrealised potential” and voicing fears that, if Monahan is released from prison, he could kill again.

As the sentence was read out, there were audible cries in the courtroom.

Before the sentence was handed down, Gillis’ friends and family members gave victim impact statements in the courtroom, saying how their lives would be forever changed by the events of that night.

The case of Chad Wheeler is one that sends shivers down the spines of football fans. In January 2021, the offensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks assaulted his then-girlfriend Alleah Taylor. After pictures surfaced, it was a horrifying sight to witness as her face was bloodied and her nose was filled with blood. Once the true account of what went down came out, it was clear that Wheeler deserved to face the full wrath of the law.

30-year-old Chad Wheeler strangled Alleah Taylor until she was unconscious, her arm was broken and she was left for dead with a bloodied nose and mouth. The offensive tackle was brought to justice after nearly three years as a jury convicted him in King County, Washington of first and second-degree assault/domestic violence.

Wheeler will now locked up behind bars for 81 months or roughly 7 years. In addition to this, the Judge sentenced Wheeler to 36 months of community custody. Following his sentencing, Taylor revealed to USA Today that she was “very satisfied” with the ruling as “it’s very unheard of that a Black woman was able to get justice from a White NFL player.”

Ironically I've seen---probably posted on this board---that the most successful interracial marriage (I guess they weren't married) combination involves white men and black women.  I guess we can chalk this one up as an outlier.

FBI: Oak Hills elementary school teacher arrested in hotel with naked 'prepubescent' girl

   

A teacher at a Delhi Township elementary school was for at least three years "an active member" of a website that distributed images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children, court documents say.

Mark Altherr's posts on the website described how he personally had sexually abused minors, according to the documents.

Ex-NY cop, 40, convicted of raping 13-year-old girl gets just 10 weekends in jail: ‘Epitome of injustice’

A disgraced Rochester cop who raped a 13-year-old girl was sentenced Wednesday to just 10 weekends in jail for his disturbing crime — a punishment activists decried as “the epitome of injustice.”

Shawn Jordan, 40, admitted in March to assaulting the teen in the summer of 2022, marking one of at least two alleged sexually predatory crimes he committed while serving on the Rochester Police Department force.

“This is an ultimate tragedy, because these parents trusted him,” Kelly Wolford, assistant district attorney of Ontario County, told ABC 3340.

“He’s a police officer, and if we can’t trust the police, then who can we trust? It’s a very difficult situation … Because this was a child who trusted somebody, and he was an adult who knew better.”

The sex pest previously pleaded guilty to second-degree rape and forcible touching in connection to an incident that occurred in his home in South Bristol, a community in Ontario County.

The sinister story behind Arkansas mother's bruised and beaten mugshot



An Arkansas mother whose face was heavily bruised in her mugshot was sentenced to 40 years in connection with the death of her five-year-old son, whose body was found under her home's floorboards.

Ashley Rolland, 30, pleaded guilty to two counts of permitting abuse of a minor on August 8.



Rolland's boyfriend, Nathan Bridges, 34, killed Blu after the five-year-old bit his finger.

Bridges did so by savagely sticking the helpless boy's head in a 'water-filled toilet until he drowned him,' according to Rolland's affidavit.

Rolland told investigators that she remained in the living room while her boyfriend was in the bathroom with her son.

When Bridges left the bathroom, she 'entered the bathroom and saw [Blu] struggling to breath[e], and his body was limp.'

Afterwards, Bridges 'cut a hole in their wooden floor, dug a hole in the ground, and buried [Blu] under the house.'

There's a real happy story to start the day.

There's a large segment of people that believe guys should get married and start families young.  I'm not one of those people.  I was 27 when I got married and was still a pretty immature knucklehead.  I obviously can't speak for every guy, but guys in their 20s and little kids just do not mix.  There's a reason women are the traditional child rearers.  Obviously this is an extreme situation and he looks to have popped her too.  Maybe now people realize why she didn't spring into action initially.  40 years for an abused woman, that clearly tried to respond (now I look and see that she didn't go in until it was over) when things got out of hand, seems way harsh.  That said I obviously don't know all the details either.     

I'm assuming the boyfriend isn't the father.  If not I can't imagine what the actual father is going through right now.  The perp better be in custody for his own safety.
