Not sure why, but Tweets don't embed correctly on this portion of the ZNH.

Anyway, here's the claim in question:

Nathaniel Jolly - Eph 4:29

@NathanielJolly
The central message from the God of love: Repent or be damned for all of eternity.

I would say that, if you want to believe what he said, there's definitely Biblical basis for it.  If you don't, there's a Biblical basis for that too.  Smile

Sadly, most English Bible translations have been corrupted.  That's how we got "forever" damnation, which doesn't exist.  The author's understanding is mistaken but most Christians believe the same false doctrine.

I don't know this for absolute fact, but I believe that most of the belief in eternal punishment in hell comes from Revelations.

Revelation 14:10 “he will be tormented with fire and brimstone”

Revelation 14:11 “the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever and they have no rest day and night”

or:

Matthew 25:46
25:46 And these will depart into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Daniel 12:2,3
12:2 Many of those who sleepin the dusty ground will awake—some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence.

I honestly don't know, but the issue of translation, or interpretation, of the Bible has always been hot topic.  Was the "virgin" Mary actually meant to be a virgin, or was it bad translation between Aramaic and Greek?

You'd think the omniscient creator of the universe would have left less up for interpretation  Angel Smile

But, in general, people can find support for whatever they want to believe and they are, of course, right.  Want to hate Jews?  It's there.  Want to support slavery?  It's there.  Want to kill the homosexuals or your cheating wife?  It's there.  Want to believe the good atheists get to go to heaven? It's there!

What makes your or your benefactor's translation less corrupt?

A Bible translation that contradicts itself is not a good translation.  One verse says that some people are damned for eternity while another says that Jesus is the savior of ALL people.  Sadly, most English translations are filled with such contradictions.

The Bible was written by many people, many of whom are unknown.  They each have their own agenda, opinion and perspective.  It shouldn't be surprising that there are contradictions.

The disagreements between Matthew and Paul, on the topic of salvation and keeping The Law, are good examples, but there are others.  I don't think trying to find something that isn't there, solely to avoid contradictions that clearly exist, is a useful cause.

Particularly when Bible creators mistranslate the scriptures which then makes it seem as though they, the original scriptures, contradict themselves.

The plethora of scripture that speaks to ALL people being saved in the end should be evidence enough that most English translations are GARBAGE.  Those Bibles frequently contradict themselves.

I know. You'd think God, given that the Bible is the only communication method he has with the world beyond about 30 AD, would have made sure man didn't screw it up.  Smile  Angel

On the contrary, Pitch. This life is about learning that we muck up everything and that the only way to a good life is to follow God. In the end, God will save all because God is good, God is just, God is capable, and God is love.
