A Rolex that was given to me by the Emir of Kuwait and my original army issue. Watches have proven to be a tremendous investment, depending on the brand(s) you are interested in. Cool story about the Emir...I'd guess it's probably an Air King or Datejust...and it has a logo on the dial, probably at the 9 o'clock position. Kuwait and UAE are very well known for giving these things out like candy. One has two crossed swords, the other an eagle and a wreath. I think Kuwait has the eagle
I don't actively collect coins, but when I do come across an unusual one, I squirrel it away. So I've accumulated a lot by now. Probably none that are valuable. Foreign change, and what not.
The obscure American coins were probably worth more when I got them than they are now, due to inflation. Maybe the giant silver dollars are worth more, I dunno. I have a few $2 bills from the 50s, and dozens from the 70s and 90s.

Iâ€ve been collecting various forms of silver for my son since heâ€s been born. Bars, various coins, silver objects like guns, Disney characters, ect. I figured he gets enough toys and crap from everyone else. He will be happy about it one day.

I like collecting unusual, one-of-a-kind stuff also. For example, I have a long bow that was used to set the world record back in the 1970s, breaking Howard Hill's record for the hardest bow to pull back. Specifically, a fellow out in Oregon owned this and pulled it to 176 pounds at a 28 inch draw. Just to put that in perspective, that's like trying to bend a 2 x 4 with your hands. And I'm not kidding, two of us strung this thing up, and it was humiliating trying to pull it back. And I can draw a very heavy bow. (this thing is fully documented, and even in the Guinness book of world records)
More recently, I almost bought a basketball that was signed by the entire 1961 Ohio state championship team including the coaches, that allegedly was presented to head coach Fred Taylor as the game ended. In other words, this was the actual game ball. After a lot of investigation however I discovered that those signatures were real, but the ball itself was not the game ball. (It helps to have gone to high school with Fred Taylor's daughter, who still keeps in touch with a lot of these former players, and was a wealth of info about this supposed game ball). So no go on that one. I had a chance back in the early 90s to buy Jim Morrison's boots. However, Morrison had small feet, (size8.5) and for 20,000 bucks I wanted to be able to wear them. So that was a no go also. Again, a one off opportunity of sorts. Quote:Hard times make hard men. |
