The BMW 3 series is pretty much for wannabes who can't play in the big leagues.

And I am not criticizing people who drive a 3 Series.  I think it's a great car for pretentious people who can't afford something better.  Same for people who drive a low end Mercedes.  It is what it is.

Tell us what fine example of meticulous engineering you drive oh great judgmental one.

People should drive what works for them. Otherwise, why even care?

By the way, if you tell us you drive a rusted out 2003 Kia Spectra or a 2022 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, does it really matter? If it is in your budget and it does what you need it to do, who's business is it but the owner's? Why judge the owner? Is that important to you? Do you do this to make yourself feel more self-important?

And just to be transparent, we have a 2015 Range Rover Evoque and not long ago got rid of a 2011 Nissan Tiida. Both have/had their purposes.

In this particular case I think it's more about who is or isn't driving it than anything else.    Wink

This pot got stirred pretty well. Cars are a good subject for ball busting fun. I will agree with HT entry level luxury cars seem to be purchased for the badge by people without the means to really buy the real thing. There are numerous better cars than a C class Mercedes at lower price points for instance. Sometimes substantially lower. The BMW 3 series has some serious street cred as a driver's car though so I don't fully agree there.

Good points.  The X1 I own is 2015 and was 35k brand new 7 years ago.  I paid 20 for it with around 35k miles.   It was a really good buy.  Iâ€ve had to fix couple things on it in 3 years Iâ€ve owned it.  2k for battery, power steering line, and valve gasket.  Well worth the price with these repairs. It is solid and runs well.  New x1 is 45 to 50.  Not cheap.

The GLK 350 4matic I bought my wife is a high end auto that sold for 60 11 years ago.  I got it for 10.  I could not turn that deal down.  Great shape and well maintained.  Havenâ€t had one issue with it at all.  That similar auto today runs around 80 or more. They stopped producing them.

Iâ€d like to own X3 bmw.  They sell new for 55-60.  Too high for me.   My son bought a x5 with 25k miles and a 2018 last year for 40.  Good buy.  Again, too high for me.

I like driving cars paid off.  As long as they run well and arenâ€t breaking down Iâ€m happy.  I hope to drive them few years and maybe sell both and just use one vehicle.

Interesting. My assumption has been that people who bought entry-level luxury cars couldn't afford the more expensive ones, but still wanted  their ego stroked.

Definitely. The Mercedes C class is a good example. It's especially true when less prestigious brands have better cars at a lower price.  I just don't think the Beemer 3 is though necessarily. I think they have cheaper options that would fit that demographic though. Is a BMW 2 going to be a better car than loaded Camry that's cheaper? Nope.
I'm not into "luxury" so I don't see the appeal beyond performance of luxury marques. I definitely won't pay for the badge.

Yup. About 550. I thought about going up on boost but right now Iâ€d have to do some other things like put in a new transmission.  Been eyeballing the Mach One but the miser in me loves the current no payments situation. Really Iâ€m just waiting for either or both of my vehicles to start having issues.
