Hilliard once upon a time was rivaling the west side. Â But then it grew. And grew.

s hard to believe now, but Westlanders at one time looked down on “Hilliards.†We used to to be the upper crust of the bottom of the pot.

Yeah, the Lincoln Village/Westland side is not exactly posh, but I agree, we do put our noses up at the eastern part of Hilltop and Franklinton. I'm old enough to remember some great restaurants in those areas though, especially Italian. Sadly, long ago closed.
Hilliard and Grove City were our sports rivalries, well, at least Hilliard was. In 1975, I was in the last sports competition with Grove City in a track Tri-meet where we came in a distant 2nd. To give you a sense of the depth of the bitterness, even though they won, as our bus departed their parking lot, the Grove City fans threw rocks at our bus breaking several windows. That was the last straw with the District, they banned ANY competition between the two schools until the last kid currently in 1st grade had graduated. Actually they stuck to this until 5 or 6 years ago. This was not just sports but all activities, including debate club. And at the very first event where they tried to have a competition in 2015 (?), a fight broke out. Annnnnnnnd, banned again, until maybe we start colonizing other parts of the galaxy.
West Jeff is, for all practical purposes, a west, albeit far west, suburb of C-bus. Only thing good there is the annual Labor Day Ox Roast.
On a different subject, I know Reynoldsburg on the east side of C-bus touts itself as the tomato capitol of the US, but the best tomatoes come from the far west side where the soil is more suited to tomatoes. In Reynoldsburg they can grow big beautiful looking tomatoes, but on the west side, the tomatoes taste better. I know this from all of the Italian families that would religiously come to our little produce stand. Some drove more than 50 miles! Crazy, but true.
