SyncroNorthern Italy
#1
Anyone been? Iâ€ve only been to central/southern Italy, never up north.

We are gonna try to sneak away for 10-12 days late Sept or early Oct.

Iâ€ve driven through much of Europe so perfectly comfortable driving, she, prefer to just take a train.

Thinking maybe just Florence and Milan, though maybe have time for a 3rd stop. Not really interested in Venice…maybe head to Dalmatian Coast for a few days?

Go to Como to walk around and experience Lago di Como. Absolutely stunning landscape. Torino and Genova have some beautiful architecture, but are fairly industrial outside the city. Verona is a fun short trip, interesting remains of an old colosseum and castle, but you can almost do it in a day. Also home to the Romeo and Juliette house. Vicenza is one of my favorites for the outstanding Palladian architecture. Also houses a US army base where I caught with a friend once. Venice can be done in a couple of days. Lots of great things to see, but obviously very touristy. They might be experiencing Aqua Alta at the time you are there, which is a weird experience to walk through San Marco Piazza a foot deep in water. Less touristy are the islands of Murano and Burano north of Venice.

Between Florence and Milan are some interesting hill towns, with Orvieto being one of the best. No real need to go to Pisa, itâ€s fun but you want to go to a place to spend a couple of days and feel the experience. Donâ€t travel like the Chinese and try to see 7 cities in 6 days. I HATE that.

Driving there is not difficult. But you have to make sure where you are going comes with parking. But donâ€t go more than 5kph over the speed limit, cameras everywhere.

Dalmatian coast is nice, but I didnâ€t spend a lot of time there. The place to really experience (told to me by multiple folks) the Dalmatian coast is actually in Split Croatia.

Iâ€m sure Iâ€ll think of more things to share later.

Thanks China…

After a bit of thought Iâ€m more inclined to just pick two cities and spend more time relaxing than moving around a bunch from place to place, but, itâ€s not really up to me. Mama gets a budget and she can choose whatever she wants to do. I want to get something booked soon as itâ€s already short notice.

Driving in Europe is pretty interesting. Never have driven in Italy…but a few years ago I picked up a car in Stuttgart at the factory then spent 5-6 weeks cruising through Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Lichtenstein (didnâ€t take long), Netherlands, then back to factory for service and get it shipped home. Was a hell of a trip!
