What are yours?

I'll start with spiders. I hate those things, wish we could purposely make them extinct.

Palmetto bugs. Was cooking on the stove one day. Felt an itch on the back of my neck. Itched and heard something plop on the floor. Look down, palmetto bug. Those are also a bitch to kill or knock out the door with a broom. Especially the ones who are still able to fly.

Heights. This is a newer one. They didn't use to bother me much. I can look out a window, but put me on a roof, hate it.

Pretty much only one...the dentist!

I hate it. I get so worked up they've tried to prescribe valium but I won't take it...

Snakes are a common one. They don't bother me a bit. I'll scream like a little girl if a daddy longlegs touches me though.

Weird combo of scared/not scared.
snakes and spiders are both highly beneficial, I wouldn't hurt either and rather I make sure I don't harm them.
Phobias are irrational fears. I don't have any phobias. I guess I don't understand how rational people have irrational fears. Now there are things I hate like mosquitos, ticks and leeches, for obvious reasons. (I've donated blood to all 3 recently, little shltheads).  But not phobic of any of those 3. Heights? No.  I probably should wear a harness up on my platform hunting stands but I feel as comfortable as a monkey up in a tree. And I probably should cut back on ladders at my age, but I am very careful on them.  Tight spaces make me fall asleep. I was the perfect candidate when we practiced new MRI pulse sequences.

Won't go anywhere within 10 feet near the edge of a cliff, or an edge with any kind of drop off. Wouldn't even stand on the glass floor overhang of the Sears Tower with my kids.

Put me on a zip line over a ravine or lake, para gliding or hot air ballooning and I'm fine doing it.

Heights. Or more specifically, falling from those heights to certain death is what I fear. I was at the Grand Canyon a decade or so ago and observed interesting things about myself. I personally would stay at least 12+ feet from the edge. When my wife got within about 5 feet, i would tell her to move away, as it made me nervous. And when perfect strangers got within about a foot from the edge I freaked out and would have to look away.

That said, I am fine with things like Rollercoasters, as I think I make the determination that the probability of death is exceedingly low and is not affected by anything I do, e.g., panicking.

I guess there are other creatures out there, like snakes, gators, and scorpions, which scare the sh*t out of me. Kind of makes me wonder why I want to retire in Florida lol.

As for dentists, I can't stand the drilling part. But I am completely unfazed by the needle coming out or being inserted into my mouth. I usually ask them to put extra "stuff" into to me, as I don't want to feel sh*t once they start drilling.

There is nothing irrational about fearing heights. People fall to their death at the Grand Canyon EVERY YEAR.

Tight spaces. Not so much classic “elevator”. Just any place I might get stuck and rescue isn’t timely, spelunking, underwater caves, etc.

Odd thing is I’ve done these things as a teen and young adult. But, taking my son to do these things, I’ve decided it’s not for me.

Probably I understand being in control more than I did when I was younger.
