Are you actually going to sit there and tell me that Republicans don't drag out blacks for show and tell and incorporate them into their schtick to prove they aren't racist?  They absolutely did that with Owens until she did the unthinkable (to them) and criticized the sacred cow, "Israel".

Same story with my second car, 1968 Volkswagen beetle. It wasn't brown so much as it was just missing a lot of metal from rust.  Made oak running boards for it out of some oak planks that I salvaged from an old barn.

Hey Stx, thought I’d try to catch ya quick before ya disappear.  Did you say Dave Smith has established an organization to try to get libertarian leaning candidates elected under the heading of either of the two major parties?  Or was he just yapping about maybe doing that?

He hasn’t established his own organization or anything, it’s more about how he sees the Libertarian Party functioning in the future-as an endorser of libertarian ( Ron Paul style) positions held by candidates within the two major parties. He claimed current/former? head of the national LP was kind of on board with him.
The LP is sort of in a weird position now, b/c weed is legal almost everywhere, no sane person is going to argue for meth legalization-even theoretically, no one is sure if Trump is die on a hill on tariffs or just negotiating very publicly and bluntly ( plus no D is going to be a true believer free trade advocate), and Trump is the most gay ( not tranny) friendly president in history-his Sec Treasury is gay, and so are a bunch of his ambassadors/personal envoys.
Smith realizes that the LP, at the moment, is fairly useless as an electoral alternative.

Ahh, gotcha.  

I really think endorsing positions alone isn’t really a winner for them if they want to stay relevant as an organization.  I really think they need to be an agent for influence.  I mean if they already see themselves as electorally irrelevant, then their fund raising will completely dry up.  If they rebrand as a libertarian advocacy group the coffers will still take in money.  I mean otherwise what’s the point of a party that knows it won’t win but just acts as a cheerleader?  They need to get in there and get their hands dirty.  And I don’t mean dirty like a typical politician, but they need to put in some work.  People will contribute if they see an honest effort.  Besides, it can’t hurt to have someone actually lobbying on the side of liberty for once.  We have more than enough advocates in dc pulling people in the other direction.

edit: the reason I brought this up is because I would enthusiastically donate to an organization like that. I think it would get people from both sides of the aisle jazzed up. IMO anyway.
