ChinaBuck10 Years of Marriage and I just learn this???
#1
So yesterday my wife and I were having a casual conversation at dinner related to more healthy eating and physical fitness. In the past she has noted she wasnâ€t good at sports in school, especially anything that involved running. And I hate to say this, but I wasnâ€t surprised at that. But what followed is what got me.

Kids in China take PE classes all four years of high school where they are taught the basics of the common sports. These kids play rec level games from teams within their school, but donâ€t often play other schools. Thatâ€s reserved for kids going to High Schools that are dedicated to sports performance for kids that have innate ability. As I understand that separation is made between 8th and 9th grade.

In college the students continue to take PE, with track and field events a priority to emphasize health and fitness. So my wife, who is admittedly terrible at running, said in school she has the hops. Thatâ€s part of the reason she liked volleyball ball. But the kicker, so to speak, is that she significantly improved on her high jump performance in college. Her best was 1.8 meters (~5â€-11”). The world record is 2.09. Iâ€m thinking thatâ€s an incredible achievement, she seemed rather nonplussed about it.

By the way, sheâ€s 5-3.

In my minds eye I can see her using this against you as you say you are tallish.

Hopping up and kicking you in the chops like Jackie Chan.

No longer GroupThink 'woke'.  but it was fun while it lasted.

If I said I was tallish, I was joking. In college I topped out at 5-9. Certainly less now as I get older haha.

They do teach the very basics of Wu Shu (martial arts) here so that people learn the basic principles. So yeah, she could probably whip my sorry butt.

One more edit: I did actually meet Jackie Chan at a restaurant in Beijing, very nice guy. And shorter than me!

People that can jump really intrigue me because it isn't merely raw strength.  There's obviously other crazy stuff going on with muscle twitch and tendons and sh1t.  I mean I knew a guy in high school that could leg press a small car, but the dude couldn't get off the ground to save his life.

I know some folks that can jump but don't run well (by comparison).  Cris Carter comes to mind.  Then I know dudes that can fly but don't jump well (again, by comparison.  I mean I'm sure they could out jump me in their sleep).  The people that can do both are special.

Then there are people like Spud Webb:   F R E A K

Itâ€s equal parts freakish ability and well learned technique.

It also has something to do how we all use what we learned from our misspent youth. My wife told me that little kids commonly played some sort of jumping games. She showed me some videos of those games, not much like it in the US. So because she was good at jumping, those were the games she gravitated (anti-gravitated?) to.

I liked rough and tumble games, thus, developing an ability to take a hit and keep playing. Even at my height, I was never fearful of going into the paint in bball. Now granted, I still sucked, but I have always loved the physicality.

I am trying to envision ways in which this skill could be utilized in the bedroom, and I am drawing a blank.

I am usually a lot better at this.

I for one can promise you that I have not seen how this talent has been utilized in any capacity within the confines of our marital boudoir. But now Iâ€m curious.

In high school I was a high jumper. I frequently cleared 6' and some told me by 3 or 4 inches. But I never could advance more than that when they raised the bar, even if it was only an inch. Once it was raised over 6' it was over my head and I guess that just psyched me out.

High jump and pole vault are both field events where it just seems to take more of a zen moment of oneness to face that singular challenge. I ran distance, haha, nothing much mental, which was perfect for me. Just run and watch your pacing.

I did teach myself how to leg flip over 42” fences from a standing position while wearing work boots. A useful skill on the farm.
