Oh Iâ€m sad. Its heartbreaking. But, this is the profession. All I can do is prepare.

Prepare how? Hide behind your desk? I say that because if you aren't willing to be a ccw holder in school then what would be your way of preparing?

I know politicians can't say what I'm about to because they'll come off like a bunch of dbags, but I wish someone would just be honest for once. These things are tragedies, but are statistical anomalies, even in the US.

Every kid that has died in a mass school shooting over the past two decades is about equivalent to an average single year's worth of child deaths to the flu, and less than the amount of people struck by lightning every year in the US. We don't see people freaking out about everyone getting flu vaccines to stop kids dying from that, and it's 20x the killer.

People forget how big the US is, and in a country of 330M people, you can't stop every evil crazy person from doing something evil. It's just not possible. Obviously I feel bad for the families, but it doesn't change my perception on guns one bit and never will. This guy supposedly did this mostly with a handgun, as did the deadliest school shooter, the VTech shooter. What kind of laws short of banning all guns could have stopped this? None.

Horribly tragic, but you do not see guys like LeBron on Kerr raging against abortion in least which willfully kills more blacks than school shootings or other types of killings.

Heck, just a few days ago Steph Curry's Mom was basically bragging about how she had an abortion the first time she was pregnant and almost had an abortion the second time... which turned out to be Steph. She said that God had a plan for this child. Apparently (I guess in her mind) God didn't have a plan for what would have been the first child.

Reading the timeline is scary. He was confronted by a police officer outside the school when he arrived but he shot the officer. He then went in a classroom and started shooting and officers were apparently there within a few minutes. He still killed over 20 people.

Schools are too trusting for sure.    The school I retired from has security door with deputy and you could NOT get in.  Also, there was a metal detector.  I sometimes walked by there on way to staff toilet and would notice access door ajar down the hall way which a person could walk right in if they parked in back by the kitchen.  Also, two could conspire to rig a door if they wanted to plot in collaboration to kill.

Now, I went on interview last week where no access was available but by button.  I pushed the button and was let right in where lady behind a window greeted me.  They did not know me either.  I had briefcase and could have carried gun in to the vestibule.  Kids were running around too.     Of course I could have had gun in pocket too.   Scary.

Texas school shooting: Obama clobbered for linking Uvalde massacre to two-year mark of George Floyd's murder
Nineteen children, two teachers were murdered at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas

Former President Barack Obama raised eyebrows on Wednesday for attempting to link this week's mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, to the anniversary of George Floyd's murder.

Nineteen children and two teachers of Robb Elementary School were murdered by an 18-year-old gunman, who was killed during a gunfire exchange with authorities. Tuesday's tragedy is now among the worst mass shootings in U.S. history.

The bloodshed in Uvalde occurred one day prior to the two-year mark of the death of George Floyd, which sparked civil unrest across the country in 2020 after viral footage showed Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on him as he repeatedly claimed he couldn't breathe until he died.

Chauvin was convicted of second and third-degree murder last year.

Obama commemorated Floyd's passing while tying it to the current national mourning of the children killed in Uvalde.

"As we grieve the children of Uvalde today, we should take time to recognize that two years have passed since the murder of George Floyd under the knee of a police officer," Obama wrote Wednesday. "His killing stays with us all to this day, especially those who loved him."

"In the aftermath of his murder, a new generation of activists rose up to channel their anguish into organized action, launching a movement to raise awareness of systemic racism and the need for criminal justice and police reform," the former president continued before plugging an initiative for his foundation.

Critics railed against Obama for suggesting a comparison between Tuesday's massacre and the police brutality Floyd faced.

"Not a single grieving parent today gives a rip about what happened to Floyd or anyone right now," Redstate editor Kira Davis reacted. "For crying out loud. This is not the time to be advertising for your favorite activist group. How utterly vile."

"What in the world does the former have to do with the latter?" Ben Shapiro wondered.

"I don't understand the connection," journalist Andy Ngo similarly wrote.

"Bro. Not the same. At all," Fox News contributor Ben Domenech told Obama.

"'It sucks those kids died, but remember George Floyd? He's who I'm still thinking about.' — Barack Obama," Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon mocked the former president.

"George Floyd is the real victim of Uvalde," Washington Examiner contributor Harry Khachatrian quipped.

"Brah, this ain't it. Little kids slaughtered at school is not the equivalent of Floyd dying after resisting arrest while high," Blaze Media podcast host Jason Whitlock wrote, declaring,"This is one of the worst tweets in history."

This is and always was my point regarding covid, covid deaths were a pittance compared to our population, yet we destroyed our global economy over it and permanently changed society.

People simply cannot fathom the numbers involved with having a population as big as ours.

I think the issue with your statement is EVERY DAMN TIME. But I read that differently.

Lets be honest.  If we got rid of all guns in this country, there WOULD be less gun crime and especially mas shootings.  So the NRA and the GOP being pro 2A does have something to do with it.

All gone?  No.  But that is the major difference between us and Europe.

We accept as part of our freedom to carry and own guns that more gun deaths and mass shootings will occur.  Its the tradeoff we are willing to make.

Im not saying this is the wrong way.  I own a gun and am good with the 2A.  But we need to be honest that with those rights and freedoms come a downside.

Yes if we got rid of all guns there would be less shootings/gun crimes.  (Well, actually there would be none because there are no guns, but I get your general point.)   As far as the NRA and the GOP?  They have nothing to do with mass shootings.  None.  As in zero.  If you want to be in a safe area, attend an NRA sponsored shooting event.  From the top down, safety is preached and practiced as if we're all POW's watching propaganda films.  Those people take responsible gun ownership VERY SERIOUSLY.  I'll give you a real world example, I used to work at Camp Perry in high school and early college years.  Every summer we hosted the National Matches.  That camp, outside of maybe Chicago on a Saturday night, had the largest collection/concentration of civilians walking around with guns probably on the planet.  No incidents.  None.  Zero.  So, clearly, guns themselves and the promotion of their safe use/storage/etc...  is NOT the issue today.  Yet we have politicians constantly grandstanding on the topic when most of them, to a man/woman, have absolutely no idea what the hell they're even talking about

If politicians want to solve this problem then they need to confront the issues that are actually causing it, because I can tell you that it isn't the GOP or organizations like the NRA.  Confront the issue of fatherless homes.  Confront the fact that most schools are sitting ducks, etc, etc, etc...   and quit acting like some universal background check/law is the be-all-end-all when WE ALREADY HAVE THEM.  I purchased a .22 plinker last year, and had to sit and wait on a background check ran on me.  For purchasing a .22!  Lol.  We, as a society, already take gun purchases seriously.

The GOP and the NRA are not the devil.  They are not the problem.  The most recent generation(s) are the first to NOT be able to bring guns onto school property.  Would any objective person say that that policy has been a success (I'm not saying guns in the back of a pick up kept schools safe as in cause and effect)?  Clearly not, so let's tackle the actual issues surrounding these horrific crimes instead of watching clown celebrity and politicians make political hay out of it.  As an aside, where is Biden on Chicago?  Never a peep out of him on this ongoing nightmare.
