We may get the full story in 1 to 2 years, or perhaps longer due to lawsuits.

First they have to get their story straight and then find the right guy wearing a cowboy hat to come out and tell it.

After the Texas school shooting, Brittany Packnett Cunningham argued we need to abolish the police rather than honor them.

During the latest episode of MSNBCâ€s The Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross on Saturday, leftist police reform activist Brittany Packnett Cunningham claimed the recent Texas school shooting is further proof that America must abolish the police.

Cunningham told Cross she believed that law enforcementâ€s mistakes during the Uvalde, Texas school shooting – namely, reports that officers waited outside the classroom as the shooter committed his massacre – means policing as it currently stands needs to be gutted.

For the guest commentator, the Uvalde shooting essentially bolstered the Black Lives Matter "defund the police" narrative progressives adopted in the wake of the death of George Floyd in May 2020.

Cunningham stated, "I think, sadly, Uvalde is a terrible and tragic example of just how – not incompetent – but problematic the entire institution is."

She then combined Black Lives Matter rhetoric with the Uvalde shooting to construct her new anti-police narrative. "If the police kill, taze and maim unarmed people because they fear for their lives and they wonâ€t stop armed people from slaughtering children, then clearly the institution itself is not sound," she declared.

Cunningham continued, asserting that Uvaldeâ€s putting too much money into its police budget for the school shooting response. "Uvlade provides 40% of their municipal budget to policing and Iâ€m very sure that being tackled and handcuffed while you are trying to go in and rescue your own children is not what the residents of that town pay for," she claimed, referencing Uvalde parents who were arrested while attempting to go inside the school and save their children on Tuesday.

"Itâ€s certainly not what taxpayers across the country think they are paying for," Cunningham added.

The activist also mentioned how police "have spent many, many years and a lot of money actually litigating the fact that they do not have to endanger their lives if they donâ€t want to, which is fine. Thatâ€s a challenging thing to ask of anybody."

That being the case, Cunningham said we should stop honoring cops the way we have in the past. "But what that means is that we should stop telling people thatâ€s what they do. We should stop leading with this ‘serve and protect†idea, because thatâ€s frankly not often how they function," she stated.

She then claimed, "We have to recognize that there is a culture in media and in television and in film that has created this incontrovertible narrative that police are perfect and they are heroes and everything they do is done with authority that should be respected without question."

Activist Brittany Packnett Cunningham tells MSNBC host Tiffany Cross about the need to abolish policing after the Uvalde, Texas school shooting

Cunningham provided alternatives to promoting respect for cops which included abolishing police. She stated, "Instead of the fact that we can look at other countries and recognize that at the very least, disarming police, demilitarizing police but really thinking creatively about how we abolish policing as we know it and really get to the meaning of public safety, thatâ€s what our communities deserve."
I hope this fool needs the cops to save her life and they donâ€t show up.

If the stories circulating are true, I do think the cops utterly failed in this situation. Does the failure of one town's PD in the midst of a once in a lifetime event for these officers mean the entire system has failed? Obviously not. Take a look at Cincy's police responding to the 5/3 bank shooter who could only kill 3 people before they chased him down and shot him. Or the Dayton shooter who was circled by police and taken down in 23 seconds. Actually, maybe I've figured out that cops just need to come to Ohio to get trained.

I genuinely don't understand the thought process (if there is one) behind people saying we need to abolish the police. Thinking society would somehow be better under "community policing" are either retarded, or willfully trying to take down the country.

I havenâ€t followed this very closely, so someone correct me if Iâ€m wrong.

Apparently the school was locked down for quite some time before the shooter made it inside.

I read this morning that the kid got in through a door that was propped open by a teacher/someone inside the building.

Also, the kid was some kind of cross dresser/tranny?

The statements his parents made were unreal…if one of my kids was in that school and I heard them say those things Iâ€m not sure Iâ€d be able to keep myself from doing something very regrettable

The kid was outside shooting for 12 minutes, so the school Should have been locked down.

A staff member left a door unlocked or propped open…..no reason known

No, he is not a cross dresser…that was fake news

He did abuse animals.

Somebody shooting for 12 min is a LONG damn time.  I can get all the way across town in 12 min and thatâ€s driving the speed limit

Yep……itâ€s a really bizarre story. Emblematic I bet of “small town America approach to life”.

big bad stuff happens somewhere else
cops are trained “enough”
we donâ€t need school security

In 2005 SCOTUS made it clear - police are not expected to protect citizens. Cops have used this ruling to simply do nothing or stand down. LV shooting, FL shooting, and TX shooting. All had the exact same response by LE. Reminds me of the scene in Rambo: First Blood where the sheriff ordered some dude to enter the cave where Rambo was hold up. The guy's response was classic "No way, Will. I only do this stuff on weekends". That's pretty much the reaction we have seen in LV, FL, and TX.
The America, and the American Military, that you once knew is gone.

So has ole Mitch tabled actual solutions and has he caved to the gun grabbers yet?  I mean does anyone seriously think ole Foghorn has the stones to stand up to the hysteria?

My expectations are that our govt will sign something into law that addresses basically nothing other than infringing on 2nd amendment rights.  There will be no tangible solutions forwarded, only feel good nonsense.  Then when the next shooting happens, more nonsense and more attempts at gun grabbing.  Rinse.  Repeat.

As for the cops.  Look, I want to come home after my shift too, but I didn't sign up for this stuff.  You guys did.  Being a cop means you deal with bad guys.  Kind of more or less the job.

We will see how it goes but I think it is possible Mitch agreed to talk about it when the heat was on last week but nothing serious will be agreed to because of the extreme nature of what the Democrats want which is banning AR's and maybe even higher capacity magazines for all firearms.  GOP knows if they cave too much on this, they ain't winning nothing in November.
