The parents of the Oxford school shooting suspect are worried that politics may hurt their chance at getting a fair trial, particularly given what their son allegedly wrote in his journal about President Joe Biden.
"Hopefully my shooting will cause Biden to get impeached," 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley allegedly wrote in a journal entry that was disclosed in a new court filing late Wednesday.
The disclosure was made by lawyers for the boy's parents, who are fighting to prevent their son's journal, his text messages to a friend and Internet searches on school shootings from being admitted as evidence when their case goes to trial in the fall.
James and Jennifer Crumbley also don't want the jury to hear about their alleged affairs, pot smoking or drinking habits, horse hobby or messy house — all of which has been raised by prosecutors. None of that is relevant to their case, argue their lawyers, who filed five blistering motions with the court Thursday in which they blasted Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald over her handling of the case, accused her of trying to smear their clients and taint the jury pool by disclosing inflammatory information, and sought to derail the prosecution case.

Initially, I have no issue with parents being held responsible in this situation. I still donâ€t. Politics shouldnâ€t be introduced. But, the environment they raised the child in, should be fair game.

Thats a serious rabbit hole George and TC want to go down.
What crimes committed by kids will parents be held accountable for? Just mass shootings?
There a lot of shitty parents in America. Overcrowding the prison and jail system even more seems like a risky idea.

Are these the parents that basically knew their kid was going to shoot up the school and texted him not to do it, then threw him under the bus after the fact by getting themselves a high powered lawyer, but got him a public defender?

If you give your child a gun…be prepared to monitor them. If you own a gun, be prepared to restrict access to it.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have to imagine a lot of kids have guns of their own. I got a 22 Mossberg with an 8 or 10 shot magazine on my 12th birthday. For those that are gun owners, this is nothing unusual. My parents were responsible people and there were rules I had to follow to go target shoot.Â
Many friends of mine also owned rifles, shotguns and pistols. But then we lived in a rural area. It seems the shooters are typically from the suburbs where the culture of responsible gun ownership is far less.

All Im saying is do the right thing as a parent arming your child. If you fail to do that…..you†re held accountable.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I†m not disagreeing at all. A parent is responsible for their child†s decisions in as much that it aligns with what the child†s upbringing. A parent is not responsible for an outside entity encouraging them to do something outside of the values they teach, assuming those values are in alignment with the legal system.Â
A normative parallel to this would be that the parent has the right to know what is being taught to their child since they are, in the end, the responsible party.
