I think people have had it up to their eyeballs with government period, federal, state and local.

We have zoning laws and HOA’s, but there comes a point when you have to ask yourself, am I really the owner of private property?  When I have to notify/ask permission to build a shed, etc….  it tends to invert the very notion of PP.  Whose house is it?  Who’s paying the bills?  

Basic zoning rules should be decided by the people (not sure if picking a mayor or council member plays into that, but I would think so).  People will typically frown on stuff that negatively affects their property values anyway.

Most of us don't want to live in a shithole neighborhood and so we, as a community, decide what can be displayed and what cannot.  If a neighborhood's HOA says no flags can be flown (for example) then one should either go along with the rule or live somewhere else.  It's not unreasonable.
