Should have shot him. No need for a dog.

Yeah, I'm good on all cops having k9s. That would suck, actually.

That was a college or pro player.  I've seen that vid on another thread.

And, no, he shouldn't have been shot. Tased? Yes, but he was only resisting, not threatening.

Dogs change the equation.

Worst idea ever.

In most instances a dog doesn't actually smell narcotics, but is simply responding to an officers prompts in a similar matter, "justifying" what should be an illegal search.

And the reason why not from Glendale.

How much do the dogs cost?

The current price for a police dog is approximately $12,000, not including the training. The initial cost for the training of the dog for patrol and detection is another $11,000. Therefore, the total cost to purchase and initially train one police dog is approximately $22,500.  This does not include any maintenance training, equipment, or supplies, which adds up to thousands of dollars per K-9 team per year.

To me that's cheap.  What you're sharing is a one-time, startup cost.  A dog can serve 2-8 years.  Offenders are much less likely to run from a dog than they would a cop and much less likely to fight a dog than to fight a cop.  A lot of guys that won't submit WILL submit when there is a dog.

Imagine if those Minneapolis cops had put a dog onto George Floyd.  Maybe George would have been willing to cooperate in exchange for calling off the dog.

Countless times we see suspects that refuse to put their hands behind their back, etc., but when the dog is put on them, they suddenly become super cooperative.  And when was the last time we saw national riots over a dog biting a suspect?  Like never?

Yes, there is a cost but, in my mind, it's a bargain.
