Waco- Netflix original
#1
It's from 2018, but just watched it this week.  Short series, 6 one hour episodes.

I remember the occurrence pretty well(from April 1993)....but learned a ton watching it.  it was based on two memoirs, one from the FBI negotiator Gary Noesner and the other from a Branch Davidian survivor David Thibodeaux.

It links the harsh approach that the ATF took to Ruby Ridge, just months before, to this, and their escalation of the situation in Waco, greatly diminishing the chances of getting everyone to walk out peacefully.

The public watched from a hill about 3 miles away.  One of the public that watched was Timothy McVeigh....

The situation as played out from the two perspectives reminded me greatly of the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman saga.

Episode 6, the assault, was deeply disturbing to me. IMO, they played the scene for longer than necessary, but I believe they did it to drive the point home. The gassing of the women and children was very troubling.

Very well done, highly recommend it.  Some may not like that it does not make David Koresh as the out and out antagonist, but presents him in a more nuanced role.  I was uncomfortable with that as well.  Still an antagonist, but not THE antagonist.  Martin Decker(HRT leader) and Tom Prince(FBI SAIC) are as well....also nuanced.

Feds doing what Feds do. Effing up spectacularly at great expense. Koresh and his band were nuts but I don't think if you tasked anyone to handle that situation and actually advised them to do as bad a job as they could, I mean actually try to screw things up as badly as they could, that they could've handled it more badly than the Feds did there.

Yep, that message came through loud and clear. And I agree, Koresh was a nut. At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised at all that the government way overstated their case, to the point of lying about his activities.

I find it odd the same folks always whining about women & children had no issue of military vehicles being used on them. Not a peep from the peanut gallery about the white phosphorus munitions used either.

Ruby Ridge certainly established Bill Barr as a lying scum bag.
"Hightop can reduce an entire message board of men to mudsharks. It's actually pretty funny to watch."

The government lies constantly.  Nothing they do is surprising.  That's why we need to triple its size to "fix" the problem.   Wink

I suspect you are speaking of something specifically.

TBH, for years I've spoken up on these boards about the militarization of our civilian police forces, and been very negative of the trend.  So, I'm sure you aren't speaking of me.

Nope. Just mentioning the oddity of the silence that happened. Janet Sterno should have been brought up on war crimes.

People are conspicuously silent when their stands are not consistent.  It's difficult to be consistent and be a seeker of truth but I do strive for that.

I agree, Janet and Clinton(apparently) signed off on the final assault.  That should have resulted in crimes, as they used tactics that were illegal under the Geneva Convention.  A line in the movie was "We wouldn't do this to terrorists because it's illegal under the Geneva Convention, but you want to do this to American citizens?".....

I've never had a USA can do no wrong, but I've always felt that even with their wrongs, some are horrible, we have a blessed way of life in this country.  This movie accentuated the former.  People protecting power and money, created a situation where terrible injustice was done.  On the other side, people deluded by false teaching also created a situation where terrible injustice ended up being done.  Horrible all the way around.

I was going to post "If I had done that in a war zone I would have been brought up on charges" but I didn't want to upset a few readers. When I saw what was happening on the tv  I recognized the crimes. I knew nothing would be done. That dude was nuts, but he and those inside did not deserve what happened to them. He went into town often and could have been picked up. The govt pushed the issue hoping people would shoot at them. It happened exactly how the govt wanted it to happen.

Are Seventh Day Adventists (and Davidians) considered within the bounds of ecumenical Christian brotherhood, or are they considered a cult/heretical like Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, etc, etc?
