Racist or idiotic-you make the call I think it is absolutely ridiculous that a 10 year is getting charged with assault for hitting a kid in the head during a dodgeball game.

What happens if you just drill someone in the face with a basketball during a game?

Foul? Ejection? Or just play on, like any other pass that hits a player?

If her son had a previous condition that left him susceptible to head injury maybe he should spend recess in  a padded room and not on the school yard playing dodge ball. Guessing all the noise is coming from the parent and not the kid.

I understand that they weren't playing dodgeball, yet the child in question threw the ball into the other child's face anyway. I imagine there is more to this story. After all, a cop wouldn't really make such an arrest, right?

In 7th grade I shut down our PE class because of dodge ball. Our class was mixed so we had both 7th & 8th graders. 

An 8th grader that I never got along with kicked a locker shut on my head one day when I was reaching into it and we
got broken up before we could settle it. Next dodge ball session I threw one (they were the little ones about 6-8" in diameter
that would fit it your hand and could sling it) as hard as i could and nailed him in the side of the face, he never saw it coming.
It was at the start of the game, so there were lots of people still in the game and balls flying everywhere.

His face swelled up around his eye and he went crying to the gym teacher. The gym teacher stopped class and
put us all in rows threatening to do this or that until someone came forward and fessed up. Still amazed that
no one saw me do it or ratted me out. Thank goodness the bell rung and I was outta there.

Got suspended around 4th grade over a fight on the playground.

The other kid started it and threw the 1st and only punch. He swung i ducked my head chin down like my Dad taught me he hit me straight on top of the head instead of the jaw and broke his arm , cast all the way up to his elbow.
Because he had to go to the emergency room ( along with all the sympathy ) i got suspended.
I was more mad at my Mom for trying to argue me out of the suspension. LOL

We actually called it blood ball instead of Dodge ball.

Charges dropped by DA.
