The View' host Joy Behar finds voters' focus on economy 'sad and depressing'

Behar argues people don't know 'what the stakes are' ahead of the midterm elections

"The View" host Joy Behar said Tuesday that she finds the economic concerns of voters "sad and depressing" and said people don't know "what the stakes are" ahead of the midterm elections.

"Well, whatâ€s depressing is that the New York Times released a poll today that says that 70% of voters agree that democracy is under threat. But only 7% of voters rank a threat to democracy as a major issue this election cycle," Behar said. "I find that so depressing, I can't begin to tell you."

Behar said she understands inflation concerns but added that it was "ludicrous" to believe Republicans might solve those problems.

"The Republican Party is happy to let corporations never pay another tax the rest of their days, they will cut Social Security, theyâ€re going to cut lunches for children. They are not going to help you, so why would you vote for them? And yet, I see that itâ€s very close, that people are not understanding what the stakes are. And I find it, I find it sad and depressing," Behar said.

The hosts also discussed the Monday night debates between candidates ahead of the November elections. Co-host Sunny Hostin said she was riveted while watching the debates but that she found Tuesday morning that very few people change their minds based on debates.

"What I found depressing because, I was riveted to the debates I think theyâ€re so interesting," Hostin said. "I realized from this morning that something like 10% of voters change their mind based on debates, going into the midterms, you know most people have already decided – two months in, theyâ€ve decided who theyâ€re going to vote for, so it's almost as if they donâ€t matter about the policies, they donâ€t matter what about people have done, they don't matter, the character doesn't matter, it just matters which jersey theyâ€re wearing," she said.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested "The View" hosts had a "blind spot" when it came to the economy.

"I want to say this respectfully, I worry there might be a blind spot about at this table is the fact that the average American family lost $6,000 in annual wages last year due to inflation. Blame Biden or don't but there is a reason that Tim Ryan is running in Ohio away from Biden and away from Nancy Pelosi," she said, adding that workers don't feel that they're getting much out of the economy.

Behar and Hostin pushed back and asked Griffin what the Republicans would do about inflation. "Do you think those same people understand that the little money they did get, every single Republican voted against it?" Hostin said.

Griffin argued that there was a reason Democrats are not running on the payments they gave to Americans in the pandemic. "It added to inflation," she said.

Behar said Friday it was "depressing" that Republicans might take over the House of Representatives in November.

"When your reporters say, you know, you tell me theyâ€re [voters] worried about gas, theyâ€re worried about this, theyâ€re worried about that, do the reporters follow up and say, ‘Do you think the Republicans will be able to fix these things?â€" Behar asked ABC News political director Rick Klein after he said Republicans were likely going to win the House.

Yes Republicans, when in control, will fix those things.  Because they do stuff that grown-ups do like allow for more domestic energy production.  Cut regulation.  Cut spending (well, traditionally, by comparison).  Cut key tax rates.  Etc...

These people are so isolated from reality that they have no idea how obnoxious they come across to average Americans.  None

Those propagandists on the VIEW are nothing but shills for dems.  INCREDIBLE a network would produce this nonsense.  What has the dems done?  ADD MORE MONEY with student loan payoffs?  OR the Inflation SO CALLED reduction act?  Whoopi Dumbazz Goldberg and Joy Big Mouth Beher are looooooooooooosers and fools and liars.   Sunny Hostin is another liar.

Almost 2.7M people have already voted in general election: analysis

About 2.69 million people have already cast ballots in Novemberâ€s midterm elections, according to the United States Elections Project.

The project, which is managed by University of Florida professor Michael McDonald, tracked early voting activity in 26 states that have reported data so far.

Most of the reported votes — 2.35 million — involved mail ballots, while an additional roughly 338,000 people have voted early in person.

McDonaldâ€s analysis also indicates nearly 16.84 million people have requested mail ballots, with most still yet to be returned.

About 122 million people voted in the 2018 midterm elections, the highest turnout of any congressional election since at least 1978, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Among the 14 states that reported data with voters†party registrations, which comprises about 56 percent of the total ballots reported to have been cast nationwide, a majority of voters were registered Democrats. About 31 percent were registered Republicans.

The disparity comes following former President Trump and some other Republicans†repeated attacks of voting by mail, which have often been made in connection with unfounded claims of mass electoral fraud.

Many states expanded mail-in voting during the coronavirus pandemic, and multiple states have made those temporary measures permanent.

Republican legislatures in states like Florida and Texas, however, have enacted new voting laws strengthening voter ID and other requirements.

Republicans boast those laws as improving election integrity, but Democrats view the restrictions as needlessly disenfranchising voters.

Florida has reported the most early voters out of any state, with about 733,000 ballots cast as of late Monday morning.

The state has not yet begun in-person voting, meaning all of the ballots cast so far were done through the mail. Election officials could begin sending mail ballots late last month.

Meanwhile, in Texas, the only state with a larger population than Florida that has reported voting data, about 67,000 people have cast ballots. In-person early voting similarly has not begun there.

Initial early voting numbers soared in Georgia, where voters are deciding closely watched gubernatorial and Senate races.

On Monday, the first day of early voting in the Peach State, election officials recorded 131,318 ballots cast in person, compared to 70,849 cast on the first day in the 2018 midterm elections.

Georgiaâ€s Senate election is seen as one of a few key races that could determine control of the chamber.

Incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) is facing a stiff challenge from former NFL star Herschel Walker ®. Polls have shown the two candidates neck-and-neck with Election Day just three weeks away.

I cannot fathom why anyone would vote early/vote by mail unless they were voting absentee (out of town, in the military, medical reason).  Itâ€s not hard to show up and vote in person.  Itâ€s really not that difficult.

I voted once in person, in 88. It took literally 20 minutes from driveway to voting booth and back home. Walk in, show your ID, go behind the curtain, simple. Since then we've had mail in.

I'm sure that none of the non profit left wing groups are requesting any of these ballots- you know, from the same exact list that they used in the 2020 election, they will try and rig blue seats whe possible this time too. I hope that enough voting systems were cleaned up to put a stop to it this time
