Minnesota lawmaker, spouse, shot dead in 'politically motivated assassination': Gov. Walz
The suspect is still at large and is described as wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants and potentially impersonating law enforcement

A Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband were shot and killed overnight in what Gov. Tim Walz said was a "politically motivated assassination."

Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) Speaker Emerita Melissa Hoffman and her spouse were shot in Brooklyn Park by a suspect impersonating a police officer.

In a related shooting, DFL Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were also shot in Champlin, sources told FOX 9. They are expected to survive and are out of surgery.

The suspect exchanged gunfire with responding police but fled the scene. He was wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants and potentially impersonating law enforcement, according to an alert.

"Our state lost a great leader," Walz said at a press briefing Saturday morning. "Speaker Hartman was someone who served the people of Minnesota with grace, compassion, humor and a sense of service."

She was a formidable public servant, a fixture, and a giant in Minnesota. She woke up every day determined to make this state a better place. She is irreplaceable, and we've been missed by so many Minnesotans.

Walz said that he was "cautiously optimistic" about John Hoffman and his wife surviving. Both were shot multiple times.

"This was an act of targeted political violence," Walz said. "Peaceful discourse is the foundation of our democracy. We don't settle their differences with violence or at gunpoint in the state of Minnesota."

Authorities have urged the public not to approach the suspect and to call 911 with any information.

A shelter-in-place order has been issued within a 3-mile radius of Edinburgh Golf Course.

Walz said this morning that had activated the State Emergency Operations Center.

"The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement are on the scene," Walz wrote on X.

"Local law enforcement in Champlin and Brooklyn Park have the full resources of the State of Minnesota behind them," he wrote on a follow-up post. "We are monitoring the situation closely and will share more information soon."

CNN polling has indicated that Republicans now hold a clear advantage with voters on economic issues. Economic concerns, especially about inflation and recession, have increasingly shaped public opinion and party preferences. Voters now see only 16% of Democrats as strong leaders.

LA-based Jimmy Kimmel claims 'there's no riot outside' as he blasts 'mentally ill' Trump
The late-night host dismissed, 'We have more so-called ‘unrest’ here when one of our teams wins a championship'

Los Angeles-based comedian Jimmy Kimmel told his audience on Tuesday that "there's no riots outside" and slammed "mentally ill" President Donald Trump for deploying troops to quell what he claims is exaggerated unrest in the city.

Trump sent over 700 Marines to Los Angeles in an effort to quash anti-ICE protests that have ravaged parts of the city on Tuesday. Images from L.A. showcase masked protesters blocking roads, destroying vehicles and engaging with police, while Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew for a portion of the city's downtown area.

Kimmel mocked the media for portraying the anti-ICE protests as "some kind of totalitarian hellscape" and condemned the Trump administration for deporting "people who have lived here their whole lives."

[Image: jimmy-kimmel-trump-la-riot.jpg?ve=1&tl=1]

"You won’t see this elsewhere on television. Not only is it not an apocalypse, they’re having a Disney/Pixar movie premiere for ‘Elio,’ a movie about aliens. Don’t tell Trump — he’ll send in the Green Berets, too," Kimmel ribbed. "But I just want to say, thank God for President Trump and the heroes at ICE for protecting us from these bloodthirsty fruit stand vendors spreading their dangerous pineapple chunks and mangos with a squirt of lime all over the city."

The late-night host vented his anger towards the ICE raids in the city, claiming that the "vast majority" of those being deported have "never done anything wrong."

"People who have lived here their whole lives, people who have been in this city longer than I have, the vast majority of whom have never done anything wrong, are being abducted, which is the correct word to use, by agents in masks, hiding their identities, grabbing people off the street and at work, sending people to detention centers," he claimed.

Kimmel asserted that it's not only Los Angelenos' right to protest the deportations, but it's their "responsibility."

"Los Angelenos gathered to demonstrate and, with very few exceptions, peacefully demonstrate to voice their opposition to this disgusting and unnecessary abuse of power instigated by our mentally ill president, who is dead-set on exacerbating this, who actually wants conflict, who is intentionally inflaming and lying to make it seem like there’s a war going on," he charged.

Kimmel continued his criticism of the president and claimed that "he wants there to be a war going on" in L.A. and doesn't care who gets hurt in the process.

"There’s no riot outside," Kimmel declared. "We have more so-called ‘unrest’ here when one of our teams wins a championship."

The host maintained that the media is exaggerating the violence taking place at the anti-ICE protests and argued that Trump exacerbated the unrest by sending in troops.

"Someone sets a fire in a garbage can, 12 camera crews go running toward it," he asserted. "Trump wants it to seem like anarchy, so he goes around our governor and calls in 4,000 troops from the National Guard and 700 active-duty Marines. When we had the wildfires that devastated big chunks of our city, he did absolutely nothing. Now that we’re in the middle of a non-emergency, send in the National Guard!"

Chinese growing naval power a concern to congress as rep DeLauro grill Hegseth

Top House Democrat grills Hegseth on submarine spending plans: 'Give us the details'
'There is a gap,' Hegseth admitted of nation's shipbuilding capacity and its needs, 'but we believe we are closing it'

Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., confronted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during a heated House Appropriations Committee hearing Tuesday over years-long lags in the nation’s shipbuilding capacity.

The top Appropriations Democrat accused the Defense Department (DOD) of failing to present a clear, transparent plan to ramp up production at a time when China’s shipbuilding capabilities are estimated to be 230 times greater than the U.S.’s. She said the Biden administration had been similarly opaque.

DeLauro zeroed in on what she characterized as a troubling shortfall between the Navy’s current production capacity and future strategic needs.

"Do you know where our submarine production currently stands and whether current production is sufficient to bridge the gap between current fleet size and projected need?" she asked.

"There is a gap," Hegseth admitted, "but we believe we are closing it."

But DeLauro wasn’t satisfied, demanding detailed data to back up that claim.

"We do not have any information or data that can substantiate what you’re saying," she shot back. "Give us the details."

"We've had difficulty with the prior administration, and I don't mind calling them out. What is your plan for the future?"

Asked what the status is of the department’s investment in submarine programs, Hegseth boasted of a 14% increase in funding in the fiscal year 2026 budget request for the Columbia-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines and a "substantial increase" in the Virginia-class fast-attack submarines as well.
[Image: AP23098316177385-1-e1680962191412.jpg?ve=1&tl=1]

But the congresswoman raised concerns about reports that the Pentagon plans to shift $3.1 billion in funding for the Columbia-class submarine program from FY2026 to FY2027 and FY2028.

"This creates a serious problem for industry in the short term and hampers shipbuilders’ ability to reach an adequate production rate," DeLauro warned. "Have you been in contact with Electric Boat or Huntington Ingalls about your plans?"

Hegseth pushed back, saying top Pentagon officials were in regular communication with shipyards.

"Almost every day," he said. "We’re actively engaged… to make sure their needs are being met and their shortfalls are being addressed so we can close that gap in real time."

DeLauro pointed to a missed deadline for placing key submarine contracts authorized under the December continuing resolution. Congress had approved $5.7 billion for two Block IV and one Block V Virginia-class submarines, with the understanding that contracts would be in place by February 2025. The Defense Department did not finalize the contracts until April 30.

"We have made a serious investment," DeLauro said. "Now we want to know where that is going and what your plan is."

When pressed for specifics, Hegseth thanked the committee for its flexibility and acknowledged prior mismanagement under previous administrations. But DeLauro cut him off.

"I want your plan," she said. "Can we get that in writing and on paper? Because we don’t have anything today. We have zip, nada."

Hegseth promised to provide the committee with written details of the department’s submarine production plan.

"We have the details, and we will provide them," he said.

DeLauro insisted she wanted the information before the committee's markup later the same day.

The U.S. Navy’s shipbuilding capacity has been on the decline since the Cold War. In the 1980s, the U.S. aimed for a 600-ship fleet; today, it struggles to maintain 300 operational vessels.

The Navy currently operates under 50 attack submarines, well below the long-term requirement of 66 boats, as outlined by recent Navy force structure assessments.

Shipbuilders report significant difficulties in hiring, training and retaining welders, pipefitters, engineers and designers. Shipbuilding’s highly specialized supply chain was hit especially hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and has been slow to recover.

IDF detains Gaza-bound vessel carrying Greta Thunberg: ‘The show is over’
Israeli forces detain climate activist and 'Game of Thrones' actor carrying less than a truckload of aid

Activist Greta Thunberg, center, waits to board the Madleen boat, before setting sail for Gaza along with activists of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, departing from the Sicilian port of Catania, Italy, Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Israeli forces early Monday detained an aid boat bound for Gaza while carrying Greta Thunberg and other activists.

The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that it detained the Madleen, along with all its passengers, and diverted the vessel to Israel.

A video from the ministry posted on X shows an Israeli Navy officer engaging with the approaching "selfie yacht."

"Using an international civilian communication system, the Israeli Navy has instructed the ‘selfie yacht’ to change its course due to its approach toward a restricted area," a post from the ministry read.

The video shows a Navy officer telling them that the maritime of the Gaza coast is closed to traffic. She instructs the activists on board that they must deliver aid through established channels.

The Israel Foreign Ministry said the passengers were "safe and unharmed" and had been provided sandwiches and water.

"The show is over," the ministry said.

Israel had vowed to stop the so-called Freedom Flotilla Coalition in the days leading up to its arrival.

Thunberg, a 22-year-old climate activist from Sweden, set sail aboard the Madleen last week, hoisting a Palestinian flag with 11 other activists, including "Game of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham and Rima Hassa, a French member of the European Parliament who is of Palestinian descent.

The groups’ aim was to reach the shores of the Gaza Strip to bring in some aid and raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis there.
According to the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, the aid on the ship was less than a single truckload.

"The tiny amount of aid that was on the yacht and not consumed by the ‘celebrities’ will be transferred to Gaza through real humanitarian channels," the ministry said.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed the IDF to screen the footage of October 7 to participants of the Gaza-bound flotilla.

The NEXT conspiracy is Trump stole 2024 election

Don Lemon, Kathy Griffin agree 'something was off' about 2024 election, suggest election tampering
The former CNN host didn't disagree with Griffin's 'tin foil hat' theory on Trump's win

Former CNN host Don Lemon agreed with comedian Kathy Griffin on his show Tuesday that "something was off" with the 2024 election and that it might have been rigged by Republicans.

At the end of "The Don Lemon Show" episode, Griffin brought up the idea as her "tin foil hat moment," acknowledging that she may upset a few "lefties" over the idea.

"I’m Kathy Griffin and I do not think Trump won in a free and fair election," Griffin said. "I believe there was tampering. I don’t know. I don’t know if it was the Elon [Musk] connection. I don’t know if it was just a few good old boys in the South who didn’t do, you know, I mean what they accuse us of."

Griffin insisted that her gut was telling her something happened with the election. While Lemon did not himself say the 2024 election won by President Donald Trump was rigged, he admitted that he didn’t disagree with Griffin.

"You’re not far off," Lemon said. "I mean I won’t say that I disagree with you… But I’m an evidence person. I’d like to see the evidence. I think something was off, and especially when someone said, ‘oh, we’ve got this.’ And, you know, how do you know that? How do we know we’ve got this? How do you know, or ‘I don’t need your vote’ or anything like that. It’s a little bit odd."

"Right. ‘This will be the last election. We won’t have any elections after this,’" Griffin said.

"’Vote for me, and you won’t have to vote again anymore.’ And also, you know, as you said, every accusation is a confession," Lemon said.

Griffin has faced backlash since 2017 over her infamous "beheaded Trump" photo – which showed her holding a fake severed, bloodied head made to resemble Trump – and eventually faced a Secret Service investigation for conspiracy to murder the then-president.

Griffin’s claim resembled one made by actress Rosie O’Donnell in March when she questioned the validity of Trump’s win because of his relationship with Elon Musk.

"I question why the first time in American history a president has won every swing state and is also best friends and his largest donor was a man who owns and runs the Internet," O’Donnell said.

Trump admin sets the record straight on reports of Musk 'body-checking Treasury Secretary at White House
White House press secretary dismisses incident as a mere 'disagreement' as team focuses on passing Trump's bill

The Washington Post reported after speaking with Steve Bannon that Elon Musk aggressively "body-checked" Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the White House earlier this year, highlighting flared tensions between the tech billionaire and members of the Trump administration.

The report stated that Musk and Bessent had entered the Oval Office in April to express their preferences for acting IRS commissioner. After Trump sided with Bessent's choice and the two men exited the Oval Office, they were said to have exchanged insults and, at one point, Musk allegedly rammed his shoulder into Bessent's ribcage and Bessent hit him back, Bannon said, informing the outlet that the information had been shared with him.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the report on this week's "Sunday Morning Futures," telling Fox News' Maria Bartiroimo that the incident was less dramatic than many assumed.
[Image: gettyimages-2217127913-scaled.jpg?ve=1&tl=1]

"I certainly wouldn't describe it as a fistfight. It was definitely a disagreement," she shared. "Although I was not there, I didn't witness it with my own eyes. I heard about it through secondhand reporting. But again, we've moved on from that. The president has moved on from it, and the entire administration is focusing on passing this [big beautiful] bill."

The former DOGE cost-cutter is allegedly discontent over the president pulling the nomination of his ally and longtime Democratic donor Jared Isaacman to run NASA, as well as Trump's big, beautiful bill, which does not solve the deficit or include subsidies for electric vehicles.

The bill caused some contention from Musk and within the GOP, with some lawmakers, including Sens. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Rand Paul, R-Ky., unwilling to vote "yes."

Musk lambasted the bill as a "pork-filled," "disgusting abomination" with a public attack on X last week, writing, "Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."

Leavitt cited a previous assertion that "healthy disagreements" have occurred between Trump's cabinet members and the former DOGE leader, adding that the team was still able to come together for the good of the American people despite the friction.

"You saw when President Trump graciously sent Elon Musk back to his companies, Secretary Bessent was there in the Oval Office, along with Secretary Lutnick and Stephen Miller. I was there, the chief of staff was there, and we were all hoping for the best for Elon," she said.

The press secretary also sounded off on a recent tweet from ABC News correspondent Terry Moran, who drew ire from the White House on Sunday after tweeting a rant against deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and President Trump in a now-deleted social media post, in which he called them both "world-class" haters.
[Image: gettyimages-2215944024-scaled.jpg?ve=1&tl=1]
"This is, again, coming from someone who is supposed to be an unbiased and professional journalist. This is unacceptable and unhinged rhetoric coming from somebody who works at a major television network," Leavitt said.

An ABC spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement that the outlet stands for "objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others."

"The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards — as a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation," the statement continued.
