Ours was comparing Exodus 19 when they came to Mount Sinai and God came down compared to Hebrews Chp 12:18-29 how we now don’t come to a mountain that burns with fire but we come to Mount Zion. The whole book of Hebrews is comparing the old covenant vs the new thru Christ.
I don’t go to mass anymore. But the daily reading was Luke 4. It was the story of Christ teaching in the synagogue discussing spirit of the lord. Also another was from First Corinthians 12.

I may be mistaken, but, I believe this is the basis for transubstanciación.

Something about how Jesus was a Melchizedek Priest.
I no longer attend church. I learned far more from Pastor John MacArthur on YouTube than I ever did attending Catholic schools or attending Mass.
We have a younger Priest that unlike most Catholic Priests, teaches the bible in his sermons. Now he's talks at a professor level rather than that of the parish members which causes some complaints. He is big on explaining what specific words meant in which language at the time, in explaining how traditions of the time are reflected in the readings and what they meant during that TIME>

People that can properly teach the word of God are priceless.
Wife and I didn't attend our church today because we are on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC the past 11 days.

He's very interesting though sometimes a bit over most of our heads.

My favorite is John MacArthur.  Here is one of his many sermons that can be found on YouTube.

Sounds to me like you have an excellent Bible teaching Priest. We def lose things in translations because sometimes there is not an actual English word to translate word to word with the Hebrew or Greek. We also need to know the time period and culture.
As far as teaching over some peoples heads, I certainly understand that. As my Pastor teaches the same way and has for 30 years. It gets easier to understand over time.

I’m all for watching services online. I download teaching off of YouTube everyday and listen to them on my way to work and back. I’ve listened to hundreds the last few years.
I would encourage you however, to get plugged into a body where you can serve and not only be ministered to, but minister to others.  The writer of the book of Hebrews addresses this…

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
