A person who is a candidate for a statin like Lipitor should generally be on one unless they can't tolerate them. The only real question here is do you meet the criteria to start one. Obviously you can impact your LDL with diet and exercise. The recommendation is at least 1/2 an hour of aerobic activity most days and something like a Mediterranean style diet. But it can be somewhat hard wired. I recommend to my patients who don't want to go on a medication indicated to go ahead and do so and we'll discontinue when they do lose weight etc. and don't need the medicine.
As for other ways such as other pills statins are by far the best and most effective option.

I've taken statins off and on over the course of last 12 years or so.  Made me sick as hell.   Went full bore hard cardio and limit red meat with raw vegetables and fruit daily.  My Blood pressure is pretty solid and I lost over 25 lbs but I've not had my cholesterol checked in years.   I may this summer by fasting and getting it done.

Zig, you need an annual exam.  Lots of bad ***** can happen at our ages.

I have been on a statin pill for over 20 years.  All my cholesterol levels are at the excellent level, and it has never made me ill.

I'm in to the Dr once a month.  I had EKG and so forth with some blood work couple years ago.  Have blood pressure checked and am on medicine for it.  I'm not having any more prostate checks, and unless I have some issues any more colonoscopies.   Done with that.  I am having the blood work done this summer on the basic stuff like PSA and cholesterol and enzymes on whatever.  Thanks.

Taking 20mg Daily with a baby aspirin . I was on Crestor which has terrible side affects. Cramping and complete body soreness. Could barley tie my shoes and felt one wrong move and every muscle in my body would explode.
Had friend experience the same thing.
Went to my Dr. 1st time they wanted to lower the dose for a week or 2. Went back in 2 weeks and said i'd rather suffer the consequences than take this crap.
Ended up in ER cramped up so bad i couldn't sit down .

Long story short. LOL
Lipitor was god send. Have not experienced any noticeable bad side affects. Been almost a year.

They say Apple Vinegar works if you don't want to use conventional medication also.

Many studies online agree.

Satins are the surest way to get it down quickly and monitored by your Dr.

Been on Lipitor for a number of years with no side-effects. Have my cholesterol checked yearly and I'm in the very low category (less than 150)

“They” are morons. Zero legitimate studies agree. The issue isnâ€t so much the cholesterol number so much as the end result. Fewer heart attacks and strokes etc. are the goal and statins deliver on that point.

Hate to report I eat a lot of things that should cause me problems and my cholesterol levels are perfect.

Me too. LDL was 99 on no meds last year. I don't have a horrible diet but it is far from ideal. How about that weinerschnitzel and sausage at Haus Murphy Zig?

I looked into the "apple cider" thing a bit, I agree, zero credible reports on its helping coronary heart disease and related issues. A nurse I know of Facebook was pushing it, I was dubious.

And of course it's hard to believe dilute acetic acid does much, and the sourcing from apples sounds to me very very sketchy, as if that is somehow a something.

This is what I call "Facebook medicine".

I knew this gal in HS, and she became a nurse, which is fine with me, but she pushes whatever the latest fad is on Facebook medicines all the time. I don't get it.
